About This Sermon
Jarrett Stephens teaches from Nehemiah 5–7 on Commitment Sunday of the NEXT Initiative. His main point is that what makes sacrifice significant is the motive behind it. Nehemiah refused to tax the people as governor, instead feeding 150 men daily at his own expense for twelve years. The wall, ruined for a century, was rebuilt in fifty-two days because the people sacrificed together for God's glory and the good of others.
Jarrett connects this to Champion Forest's history of sacrificial giving, from 1976's "Together We Build" campaign to 2008's "Impact." He shares stories of equal sacrifice today: children selling cookies, a man giving his silver retirement collection, and online viewers committing generously. Sacrifice without worship is empty. The right motives, the glory of God and the good of people, are what make it matter.
