In the Bible the name reflects the character and reputation of the person; so, praising God’s name is praising God…meaning that this psalm is a hymn of praise!

God’s name is most magnificent and He is worthy of all praise, glory, and honor that we give him. Because of its language this Psalm can be categorized as a “Nature” Psalm. Consider taking a walk today and admiring the beauty of God’s creation and His attention to detail.

And remember that you have been fearfully and wonderfully made by the hand of God!

Psalm 8

How Majestic Is Your Name
To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

    1. Being a choir member I am reminded of the song we have sung with the words of this Psalm! How majestic is your Name in all the earth! Lord thank You for your Majesty! The birds of the air and the fish of the sea join with all Your creation to say, “Thank You!”

  1. Oh, Dear Heavenly Father,
How wonderful is you name! You are my Almighty Father, my Saviorand my King. I come before you today, a lowly sinner, but you have lifted me up and taken me into your arms and cared for me. You alone, our Creator, have provided this wonderful world in which we live. Everywhere I look I can see your handiwork. Thank you for caring so much for me . I know that you are also preparing another place for me in heaven where I will live with you forever. I praise your name , the name that brings me such joy to say …the name of Jesus. There’s just something about that name. Please help me to always bring you honor and glory as we walk together and to introduce you to others I may meet along the way. Thank you again for your everlasting and steadfast love. Amen.

    1. It is refreshing to wake up and be able to praise His name, which gives me the strength to face the day. I’m so assured that He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way (path)… He Lives, as written throughout the Bible and songs. God will orchestrate healing in this country and I pray we focus on Him and look for His guidance and wisdom. He has the answers if we will just pause and reflect.
To all…. have a blessed day. I feel blessed everyday when I rise. Love, Carolyn

  2. I can not understand why He loves me but I am so thankful He does. When I look at all the beauty of this earth am in awe of His Majesty . Thank you Heavenly Father for all you do and have done for me.

  3. Lord Jesus, there is no one like you and I am so glad that you pursued me back in 1985. It is incredible to know You and know that You love me no matter what. I thank you for your creation and the beautiful masterpiece you have made. When I am walking or running, help me not to forget all that You have created. My heart sings Your praises continually.

  4. Hebrews 13:15 (ESV)
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

With voices United our praises we offer, To You, our great Redeemer, forever be praise!

    In Jesus name, Amen

  5. oh HEAVENLY FATHER, how majestic is your name! thank you for your wonderful gift JESUS CHRIST

  6. In his book Wisdom For Each Day, Billy Graham discusses “the 7 wonders of God”. I read the list almost every day. They are a reason to praise Him: God’s love, He came to dwell with men, the cross, conversion, peace and joy, His plan for the future and our free will. Praise the Lord.

  7. Dear God, thank you for creating me in your image! I have been fearfully and wonderfully made

  8. Man seems so small and insignificant in view of all the wonders of creation and yet You have given him dominion over all things. Your name is majestic over all the earth and we are blessed to call you “our” Lord. Man has sinned horribly in our stewardship of your creation. Thank you for raising up Christ Jesus to conquer the enemy and for placing all things under His feet. Help us to obey His will on this earth as his hands and feet, using your resources wisely to bring glory to your name and calling all creation to praise you!

  9. Amen! In Genesis 1, when God created the heavens and the earth, God saw that everything he created was good. Indeed, God’s creation is amazing. The whole earth and the universe speak of His majestic power and glory. And best of all, He created man in His own image. I pray that as a child of God, created in His image, I live my life in a way that honors Him. So that at the end of my life, God will say, it was good!

  10. When I read today’s scriptures, I thought about how simple minded I am. When I consider all what God has created, I marvel at the beauty and detail. But this morning as I stopped and sat at God’s feet I was drawn to really think about His creation. There is so much more to the detail that we cannot see. We enjoy the outward beauty without really thinking about the detail. But it is what we cannot, or for the most part, do not see that reveals just how majestic our God is.

Anyone who has study anatomy of the body will tell you they are blown away by the intricacy of the detail how human life is formed and how the cycle of cells continues to regenerate as we live. I remember when I studied the proliferation of skin and how it regenerates. The cycle it goes through to produce a single ridge cell of skin is incredibly detailed. And that is just one of the many parts of our body that God created. He spent time to put our bodies together in such detail when we were in our mother’s womb. But the detail did not stop at birth, it continues to regenerate. It needs nourishment to regenerate and stay healthy. Likewise, I need the nourishment that God gives to thrive and grow. Without it I am vulnerable to disease and death. Death is not necessarily our last breath on earth. We can be breathing, yet spiritually and emotionally dead. We need to stay connected to God in all areas of our life in order to be all that He has created us to be.

I’m sure there are many ways these verses will speak to people. But for me, God used it to remind me that He created everything uniquely. The heavens, nature and every breathing thing are the majestic works of His hands. He has given us the responsibility to care for it. In verses 3 -6 God says, “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet.”

I was also reminded through today’s reading that all of us are affected by CVID19. Some may express their fear and anger more openly, while others may hold their emotions inwardly. I should consider both before drawing conclusions or before judging their actions. Sometimes it is the “details” that are unseen that produces the outward actions. In I Samuel 16:7(b) God reminds us, “man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” God looks at all the details, even those that are hidden to us.

Thank you God for reminding me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made by your hands. “My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you.” Amen!

    1. Thank you for sharing. Our human bodies are indeed woven together so magnificently. Praise the Great I AM

    2. Amen, wonderful thoughts.l too marvel at human biology DNA helix made up of mere chemicals and the chemistry of how it all works . Yes God created all science and evolution!
      FACT.?

      1. Praise the Lord that YOU made everything good and has entrusted it to our keeping.
During this time show the world how YOU take care of your own and how we can show your love to our lost world.

  11. On my daily walk I thank God for the beauty around me! Thank you God for creating me in your image!

  12. “…bless the Lord oh my soul, oh my soul, worship His holy name…sing like never before, oh my soul…I worship His holy name, I worship His holy name…” Thank you Father for all the details. Amen

    1. Yes, indeed, I sing with you all.
How we worship His Holy Name ….
      “…Worthy is the Lamb…
      The Lamb that was slain,
      Holy, Holy is He….”
Oh! God how we love thee. Thankyou so much for loving us first and for your Holy Spirit.

  13. In this time of renewal I can see your hand in the beauty of your creation. Thank you God for loving me enough to share this beauty.

  14. Dear Father God,

As I sit here this morning with You, I look out my window and see the sun’s rays shining through the limbs of the old oak tree that stands tall and mighty in my backyard. The breeze is gently blowing through the wind chimes, and I am filled with awe and wonder at your beautiful creation.

Great is your Name! Let me be mindful of the gifts you’ve give me so I may use them to bring you glory.

Comfort the hearts of those grieving today, and calm the minds of the worried and weary, I pray. You are our hope! Amen

  18. Father, in the stillness of the morning, I praise your Holy Name. As the sun rises, I see heartbreak, fear and despair. Father comfort those looking up to you. May all who cry out to you feel your peace. In the midst of the storm, may we look to your heavens and know you are mindful of each of us. Throughout this day, may I cry out: O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. May I believe in you. Shalom

  19. This Psalm highlights God’s amazing creation. When I take my daily walk around our neighborhood, the birds sing so beautifully. I find myself praying God’s praises – just like the birds. The wind blows my hair which reminds me God is present – taking care of each of us. His scripture reminds us that he takes care of the birds of the air, so much more does he take care of me. Praise God for his creation. Thank you Lord for your provision!

  20. You are so great and I am so small, Lord God. Yet you have shown me your great love and have chosen me in Jesus to reign with him. Make me worthy of your calling so that I may give glory to your matchless name!

You hang every star in the universe in the most incredible order; perfectly paint individual stripes on zebras; and seed the earth with the beauty of each, the simplest and most intricate flower…all of life and light! So why is it such a stretch to believe you conquered death? Oh Father, may all be drawn to you, and believe they are fearfully and wonderfully made to worship you! Send me this day, my Father, onto their path to proclaim All Your Majesty! All Glory is Yours, my Lord and Savior! Amen.
