About This Sermon
Jarrett Stephens teaches from Matthew 26:36-46 on what he calls warfare prayer. In the Garden of Gethsemane, with the cross looming and darkness pressing in, Jesus models how to fight the battle of wills through prayer. He is completely honest with the Father about what he wants, asking for the cup to pass. He persists in prayer three times, returning again and again. And finally he surrenders: "Nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."
Jarrett shows that Jesus' prayer follows the pattern of the Lord's Prayer itself, now lived out under extreme pressure. The message invites us to make prayer our first response when pressed, to bring God our real desires without pretense, and to keep praying until our will yields to the Father's.
