Here in Psalm 20 we find an example of a liturgical song that would have possibly been used on the day of battle. This psalm is a cry on behalf of the King as he enters into battle! It evokes a sense of holy confidence in the Lord and his ability to overcome the enemy!

As we approach prayers of supplication on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Christ, we can proclaim the Lord’s might over the enemy with bold confidence, and we can (although we often forget to) “shout for joy” when the Lord shows His dominion over the enemy!

Psalm 20

Trust in the Name of the Lord Our God
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

1 May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!
May he send you help from the sanctuary
and give you support from Zion!
May he remember all your offerings
and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah

May he grant you your heart’s desire
    and fulfill all your plans!
May we shout for joy over your salvation,
and in the name of our God set up our banners!
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!

Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with the saving might of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright.

O Lord, save the king!
May he answer us when we call.

  9. God,
For every child that has been & will be part of your body @ CFBC, may you answer them in their day of trouble. Send them help from your sanctuary & give them your support!! Remember your children. Regard them with your favor. Save them by your grace!! Some children put their trust in the world. Others trust in popularity and stuff. God may the children of CFBC trust only in you!!!

    1. Children are very much on my heart too, Stephanie. When I pray as Pastor Morris suggests, my blank is filled with “parents”. When a child tells me they asked their parent to read the daily Bible verses with them, and the parent says “we’re too busy”!!!

Oh Lord my God, I lift up parents today in prayer. Please help them win the battle over idols, or perhaps it’s fear of failure because they are unfamiliar with your Word…or even that a choice has yet to be made to follow you… Oh Lord, whatever the barrier, I pray parents will model spiritual devotion and worship for their children at home. Father, please provide your children of all ages with a burning desire to seek you daily. For Your Kingdom! Amen.

  10. Oh Lord! I trust in thee over every challenges, in my life, family and ministry. Hear me oh Lord, when I call.

  11. Heavenly Father,
As You have used trials to strengthen me over the past years to draw me near to You. I will continue to pray for my husband that You, please heal the wounds of my husband’s heart, smooth the scars of past hurts and brokenness. May Your healing permeate his being, inside and out.”
May he seek to love You and trust You with everything he has and is. Protect him from opinions intended to sway him from Your Word. I pray that he will seek and search You, my Lord.

    In Jesus name, Amen.

  12. Great reminder … what are my “chariots” or “horses” that I’m choosing to trust in instead of the Lord? Only He is able!

  13. Lord, help me not trust in what I can do with my own hands, or even in what you provide that can help me succeed, but to depend on you and alone because you are the ultimate source of my success and satisfaction.

  14. Lord I thank you for hearing my prayers with my husbands problems with the wafer on his ostomy site not wanting to hold. Trusting & knowing that He care for us , He hears us & He will act . In His name, Amen!

    2. Vicki, keep trusting God to take care and heal your husband.
I have taken care of my husband for 15 years. I too have severe back pains. God is the source of our strength.

Father God right now give Vicki the strength and painless back problems to take care of her husband. Heal her husband with your healing power. In Your Mighty Name.

  29. Father, I’m asking for my husband, Kim, to be completely healed from a stroke that he had on January 25, 2020. I thank you for what you have already done in the healing process. I lift up his speech and memory of things to you. Please let his brain make new paths and his speech and memory of certain things return to him. He’s trying to do a great job with his speech therapy and he wants to get back the way he use to be. We love you Father and know that a stroke has no hold on you. You are the great I AM! I cling to Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen” If any of you that might see my post could please lift up a prayer for my husband’s speech to return, I thank you very much!! May God be with all of us!
