Numbers 21: 4-9

The Bronze Serpent

From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way. And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.” Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.

  1. From the Garden of Eden in Genesis we all understand who and what the serpent represented. Today a small group of CFBC members will be driving to Austin this morning to participate in the Texas March for Life. Please pray for us and for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the speakers and marchers. Also pray that this will be the last year as we march that Roe v Wade is the law of the land and that the Serpents head will be crushed. Thank you, brothers and sisters.

  2. Yes Lord, thank you for forgiving us from our sins. If we will just keep our eyes upon the Lord and wait patiently, we will live a life that is pleasing to Him. We are all too impatient and think we know what is best for our lives when we truly do not. Please give us patience and humility and more faith in You. In Jesus ‘ name I pray. Amen.

  3. What a long suffering, forgiving, Heavenly Father we have! And how sin bites and burns us with its venom! Here is a picture of how His Son Jesus would be lifted up on the Cross to suffer and die for the sins of the world and pay the debt we could never pay – so that we could have forgiveness and a right relationship with with God and the gift of eternal life – if we turn to Him , recognizing our sinful condition and looking to Him in faith, and putting our full faith in Him , believing His promise. – This is what Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3. May we never forget or take our salvation lightly.

  4. Thank you Lord for being I AM. I bow down and worship You. Your Will goes before us and will never take us where Your grace will not protect us. You are the anchor in the storms. You are I AM. Holy ground. Amen.

  5. Many times in our lives, we want to go ahead of God, we also want to help Him do what he has promised He will do for us. Patience when God has shown the vision is essential to our success. His word says “Even though it tarry, it will surely come to pass”. God does not move from left to right, and that is the reason why even though we make mistakes along the way concerning the vision, He still finds a way to align us with the vision. Today, I pray that He will increase our capacity for patience and keep us focused on the vision He has given us.

  6. Thank You Father for the 100,000 times that you forgive us. Thank you for your grace and your faithfulness and for loving us so, especially because we don’t deserve it. You are holy. Praise be to Your holy name. Amen

  7. Our sin so easily besets our faith! We get focused on ourselves and what we don’t have and forget about God and all the wonderful things we do have! Oh Lord forgive us and let us look to you for forgiveness and restoration! As you have promised if we confess our sins you are faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

  8. 1 John 1:9 when we confess our sins,He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness

  9. How quickly we forget about all the good the FATHER does for us; HE’s our provider for all of our needs but blame HIM for our circumstances & food. (Well they are going the long way around) to get to the Promised Land. Of course I’m looking back, they didn’t have that luxury. But complaining is not the answer. GOD was giving them a choice like HE gives us today. Choose faith & obedience and live or stay angry & rebellion & die. I choose the first. Thank YOU Heavenly FATHER for Grace & Mercy. None compares to YOU.

  10. So cool to see the story foreshadowing God was writing even through the Old Testament.

  11. My Heavenly Father not only knows beforehand what sins I will commit, but He also has prepared a way for me to be forgiven and restored. Who could imagine that kind of patience and love?! I will be ever watchful so that I don’t take that for granted.

  12. So much application and “meat” from these few scriptures. A prophetic forecasting of the cross. Really good exciting stuff. A few take aways:

    1) Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13 NLT Be content in every circumstance. Be a Paul 😉

    2) “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. Thankfulness and an attitude of gratitude helps us keep a heavenly, God perspective on whatever trial we are facing or difficult season that we are in.

    3) it is a happy day when we recognize our sin and repent and turn from our sinful, wicked ways. Heaven rejoices. (Luke 15:7)

    4) Read John Chapter 3; the entire chapter (its short)
“If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” John 3:12-15…and then you all know John 3:16 right after 🔥 🔥 🔥
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:22

“For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,” Romans 8:3
