A Mother's Surrender

Hannah faced deep pain: barrenness, a rival wife's cruelty, and a husband who did not understand her grief. Hannah asked God specifically for a son and promised to give him back. The Hebrew word for "asked" and "lent" are the same, showing that for Hannah, receiving and releasing were one act. She kept her promise, and Samuel grew to become one of Israel's most influential leaders. Jarrett calls parents to the same fight: persistent prayer and open-handed surrender of our children to God's purposes.
