D Groups
What are D Groups?
D Groups, or Discipleship Groups, are the avenue for deeper authentic community and relationships in our church's student ministry, centered around vulnerability, authenticity, and accountability.
Accountability to a small group is an essential part of the Christian faith. In James chapter 5, we are instructed to confess our sins to each other.
"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
James 5:16 NIV
Sin breeds shame and isolation, but accountability brings grace and growth. However, this is also meant to be a time to be reminded of the Gospel and be built up.
"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV
Groups follow a structured time when they meet. This allows everyone to be well aware of what is coming up and removes the awkwardness of someone having to initiate the conversation.
Being part of a discipleship group is a commitment to your fellow students and your leader. Participants promise to fully commit to this group by:
(Psalm 119:11, Matthew 6:33)
Share what you've been learning from God's word this week.
(James 5:16, Romans 8:1)
Confess and repent of sin, followed by prayer from group members.
(Romans 3:5-6)
Share opportunities to spread the gospel and grow spiritually.
D Groups range in number depending on location and grade level but cannot exceed 10 total students of the same grade and gender. D Groups meet bi-weekly (6-8 weeks), with the location and time set by the individual group leaders.
