2 Peter 3:1-18

The Day of the Lord Will Come

This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Final Words

14 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 15 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 16 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

  1. God our Heavenly Father
Help us to be ready for Jesus’ return.
Show me your will and help me to do it.
Please be with the people in the Ukraine.
Lord God please bring that war to a peaceful conclusion today.
Turn America back to you and help us to remember how we were founded.
    Amen

  2. Father, as we wait for the new heavens and a new earth, may we be found clothed in your righteousness, diligently sharing the good news, and praying for the salvation of many. Who am I that you would love and call me to your service? Hallelujah. I am saved. Hallelujah. I am redeemed. Hallelujah. I am a child of the KING.

    1. Be ready and live your life as one who is expecting the Lord’s return as a glorious event to be shared by all. Do the Lord’s work as instructed. He is coming soon.

  3. Lord, please lay axe at the root of anything that keeps me from walking with or like you. Teach me how to be a light in this world for these are the desires that you have put on my heart. Show me how to say yes to your call and follow through.

Lord, I want to love the sinner, especially when I don’t understand the sin.

Thank you for molding my heart. I know that you use all the circumstances in my life to make me more like Jesus. Thank you for strengthening the fruits of the spirit through each and every trial…it is a source of joy.

  4. Lord Jesus to You be the glory now till the day of eternity. I pray for those who if You came today would not enter eternity with You. For they refuse to believe in You. Lord help them see that You are calling. Use me to be Your witness. For eternity is drawing near. Time is running out. This world on it’s present course can’t last much longer. The earth is groaning for You. Come Lord Jesus Amen.

  5. Praise the lord for the return of Jesus. Be ready and don’t sin. God has a plan for his glory that will bring comfort and hope to all believers.

  6. I will continue to grow in grace and knowledge of my Lord Jesus Christ. I am so joyful that God instilled a hunger and thirst for His word and I pray I can shine His light by sharing my testimony and heart for our heavenly Father, precious, selfless Lord Jesus, and powerful, impactful Holy Spirit Amen.

  7. I will continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…

  8. …one of my favorite verses… 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

Dear Father, I join with Lisa and Cassy praying for all the lost souls… For them to be found before your return Jesus… If it be Your will, use me to reach them Father.

    Amen

  9. Two things Peter said that we can take to our Spiritual bank; the Scriptures can be trusted, & GOD has called us to live holy lives. Scoffers, false leaders, skeptics or unbelievers (whatever they call themselves) not only reject the Authority of Scripture, they also encourage loose undisciplined lives. Now the question is; what does the future hold for those who find this world so attractive? The talk of JESUS’ return is meaningless, & the name of God is generic, they don’t believe in the O.T. flood or just ignored it. But “GOD” will judge & our human notions of “slow” don’t apply when evaluating GOD’s timing. We must believe that what seems to us to be delay as patience, motivated by GOD’s desire to see that all have an opportunity for repentance. No matter what the scoffers say. GOD acted once in judgment, GOD will act again. Our Universe did burst into being at GOD’s Word, & it will end when HE chooses to speak again. My advice is not to be led astray by people who talk like Christians & live rebellious, ungodly lives. Reread 1st.Peter 1:1-15 & this last verse 3:18 & stay steadfast in our spiritual growth. To GOD be “all” glory in JESUS’ Name. Amen!!!

  10. We only need to know Gods word is true and He is not like us, He wish none to perish and not have the chance to repent. His patience is to give that opportunity to those who others thinks is lost.

    Be blessed church
