Mark 14:32-42

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. 34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.” 35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” 37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? 38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him. 41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

  1. Heavenly Father, after praying and pouring his heart out to you, your son said to his disciples: Let’s Be Going. He asked for the cup to be taken from him, but in submission, walked in your will. May I be willing to follow.

    2. I want to walk with you Lord and learn of you and your Father. I pray that I will read your word and become closer to you. Hallelujah and Amen 🙏🏻✝🙏🏻✝💜💜🙌🏻🙌🏻

  2. I think Jesus prayed more than the rest of us. If Jesus prayed as close as He is to the Father, should we not also pray all of the time.

God please help me to take time out of my schedule and put you first and pray much of the time the way Your Son Jesus did.

    Thank you Lord.
    Amen

  3. Lord, I know that You have the victory, but how weak (or strong in rebellion) is the flesh that even three chosen disciples in Jesus’s presence failed to follow His directions.

Lord, I ask in Jesus’s name for your strength. Choice is a powerful gift from you. You gave us the power to choose you, to choose love, but with great power comes great responsibility. I humbly ask for a teachable spirit. When You move, I want to see you. When You speak, I want to hear you. Thank You for your patience and Your mercies made new every day. Thank You for renewing my heart and mind. Thank You for Your forgiveness through every one of my mistakes. Lord, You are enough.

Help me in my unbelief. Show me how to honor and glorify You in everything I do!

    1. My thoughts mirror your own, Nadia. Thank you for the beautiful expressions of faith and desire to please, honor and glorify Him.

  4. Dear Heavenly Father,
You endured so much for us and yet we fall short of what you ask of us. Please forgive us and help us avoid temptation. You showed us that prayer is so important even to you. Help us realize the importance of prayer . Amen.

  5. Not my will Lord but let your will be done. I often find myself debating with myself to be truly obedient to the word of God. Its not easy for us at time just as it wasn’t easy for Jesus at His appointed time but He decided His fathers will had to be accomplished and His fathers will would save the world.

Sometime it seems that God asks us to do very difficult things that seem to be out of our control, but remember He knows the end of every matter. So I say not my will but your will Lord.

    Be blessed church
