A poem written by Stephanie Chase

A normal preschooler...

tells tall tales and fibs,
picks their nose,
chews with their mouth open,
runs when they should walk,
is afraid of the dark,
wiggles constantly,
splashes water all over the bathroom,
says "no,"
spills at every meal,
always asks "why,"
breaks important things,
embarrasses you in public,
hits, kicks, or bites other children,
smacks their food,
throws themselves on the floor when they don’t get their way,
stays dirty,
leaves toys on the floor,
loves talking on the phone,
loves to dance,
loves sitting in your lap,
laughs, giggles, and smiles,
is fascinated by the simplest things in life—
like butterflies, worms, lipstick, and fireworks,
gives plenty of hugs,
tells you how much they love you,
says the funniest things,
talks non-stop,
craves your attention,
makes you laugh,
is silly and loves to have fun,
and loves to read and play games.

A normal preschooler brings many headaches, frustrations, and challenging moments.
But a normal preschooler is here today and grown tomorrow.
So, cherish your normal preschooler—after all, they are perfectly normal!
