Hello Champion Forest,

My name is Jarrett Stephens and I am so excited about the possibility of becoming your next Senior Pastor. For the last 20 years, my family and I have had the incredible privilege of serving Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. Over the last few months God has taken our family on a journey and made it abundantly clear through prayer and seeking his will for our lives that we are to follow his lead and join in what he is doing at CFBC.

It has been an honor to get to know and walk alongside your Pastor Search Committee in recent days and I am extremely humbled and grateful they have extended an invitation to serve your great church in this capacity. Know that I am eager to begin and am hopeful for all that I believe God can do in and through us as we seek together to live on mission for him.

My family and I can’t stop thinking and dreaming about the future. We look forward to meeting you, and being a part of this faith family.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

2 Timothy 4:7-8

Dear Church Family,

From the time the Pastor Search Committee was confirmed, the nine-member team has been prayerfully seeking God’s guidance. It is with great joy that we unanimously recommend Dr. Jarrett Stephens to be the next Senior Pastor of Champion Forest Baptist Church.

Dr. Stephens, his wife Debbie, their four daughters – Riley (15), Kelsey (12), and twins Landry and Cameron (8) are coming from Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. He has served there for 20 years as Teaching Pastor. The Committee has interviewed him extensively, listened to many of his sermons and visited with him and Debbie over a 4-day period. Dr. Stephens, originally from Bossier City, Louisiana, is extremely excited with what he has learned about Champion Forest Baptist Church. He has made campus tours, met campus pastors, and talked with Executive Staff, Global Staff, Deacon leadership and many Life Group leaders; after each step of the tour, the excitement has grown.

From the foreword of the book The Mountains are Calling (written by Dr. Stephens) the Senior Pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church, Dr. Jack Graham, writes: “From the first day I met him as a young Prestonwood intern and first-year seminary student, his upside potential was obvious. Enthusiastic, godly, gifted, hungry, sincere, and humble, Jarrett began his ministry and ascended to the highest level of leadership in our church.”

After a month of dedicated prayer, which served as the foundation of the entire search process, we continued in prayer for unity and clarity. Countless hours of gathering data, church history, ministry strengths and weaknesses, input from the congregation and staff surveys – all was compiled for potential candidates. Many names were initially on the potential list, but five names were seriously considered. Personal videos, intense interviews, numerous sermons, and profiles, all were studied.

The candidates were outstanding! Many factors were significant in the decision process, but after much prayer and deliberation, the certainty was confirmed. Dr. Stephens’ personal testimony sheds so much light into how God worked in his heart while at the same time God worked in the hearts of each committee member.

The PSC Committee is thankful and humbled by the trust you have placed in us. We stand in awe as we continue to watch what God is doing in the life and ministry of CFBC. We are confident God’s hand was in the guidance of bringing Dr. Stephens to us, all because of the prayer of His people.

John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”

Dr. Jarrett Stephens serves as Teaching Pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church, in Plano, Texas, one of the largest and most dynamic churches in the country with more than 45,000 members.

He has served as Teaching Pastor for the past 11 years. In this role, he serves alongside Pastor Jack Graham, and teaches during the Saturday Worship Service at the Plano Campus and on various Sunday mornings there and at the North Campus, located in Prosper, Texas.

He began his ministry at Prestonwood as an Intern to Married Adults in 2000, then served as Associate to Young Singles and Minister to Young Singles.

Having served as an intern to begin his ministry career, Jarrett brings his own experience in overseeing the Residency Program at Prestonwood. The program, which includes some 30 residents at any given time, provides practical, real-life ministry experience for seminary students.

And as Minister to Young Singles, he led many young adults on short-term mission trips to help new churches, igniting his passion for church plants. In 2011, Jarrett assisted Dr. Graham in launching the Prestonwood Network, which exists to equip and encourage pastors while working together to plant and revitalize churches. Prestonwood Network currently partners with more than 150 churches across North America, many of which are church plants.

Jarrett also serves on the boards of PowerPoint Ministries, BridgeBuilders, Dallas Baptist University and the North American Mission Board – which clearly point to his passions of sharing the life-transforming message of the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the world, to serving the least of these in the inner cities, to raising up the next generation of Christian leaders, to equipping churches to be on mission.

A native of Louisiana, Jarrett graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark., with a bachelor of arts in biblical studies and psychology. He received his master of divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2006 and his doctorate of ministry from Liberty Theological Seminary in January 2012.

Jarrett is the author of two books, including his newest book, The Always God: He Hasn’t Changed and You Are Not Forgotten, to be released in 2021. Addressing this chaotic season we find ourselves in, and for any difficult days, Jarrett brings a message of hope about a God who never changes.

His debut book, The Mountains Are Calling: Making the Climb for a Clearer View of God and Ourselves, was released in August 2018. In his book, Jarrett takes readers to 10 mountaintop moments in the Bible where people had encounters with God. Through these experiences, God revealed His truth and brought His people closer to Him.

Jarrett and his wife, Debbie, have four daughters, Riley, Kelsey, Cameron and Landry.
