Seeing people baptized is one of our favorite moments each week at Champion Forest. Baptism is a clear picture of identifying with Christ’s death and resurrection. When someone trusts in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, the next step of obedience is to be baptized. It’s an outward symbol of a heart that’s been changed.
Last week, CFBC member Michael Skibinski had the honor of baptizing his 13-year-old son, Elijah. Elijah admits there were some nerves going in to the baptism tank…
“I felt nervous at first, but then I was excited. (Especially since the water heater was on!) I have been waiting to profess my love toward the Lord in this way for a long time. When my older brother was baptized a while ago, I had always wished to be baptized since that day. I loved the idea that I could tell my friends why I got baptized and how they could go to heaven as well.”
You could tell from Elijah’s smile how much it meant to him. Being baptized is a clear marker in one’s life in which they can always look back to as a milestone of their faith. Michael was a proud daddy!
“As parents we work hard in hopes that our children will one day be able to make it on their own, but when we see our children make choices to follow the Lord with their life, and make these choices on their own, there are now words to describe the emotion, only a proud dad! I suppose, in some very small way, I understand a little bit of what the Father must have felt when he declared, “This is my Son in whom I’m well pleased.” This is a moment that my son and I will have and remember forever! I know as parents we often fail, but I am so thankful that I know that God’s work in Elijah has only just begun, because God is faithful to keep working in Elijah for the rest of his life.”
If you ware interested in getting baptized, or have questions about your faith, we would love to talk to you!
