Gospels and the Kingdom of God
Class Description: In Mark 1.15, we are told that Jesus went out from his baptism proclaiming good news; Mark sets up his whole gospel with Jesus announcing that the kingdom of God had come near. Do we know how to read the gospels and recognize what they’re telling us about the kingdom which has come near? Reading all the gospels together – that is, the books themselves together and us together with one another – gives us the chance to examine familiar Jesus stories and better understand what Jesus was up to, why he made people so angry, and what good news he has in store for us.
Teacher Bio: I’m Leasha! I love to learn, and I love participating in other people’s learning. Once I discovered that you could study the Bible – really study it – I never looked back. I first taught adults at CFBC as a newly minted graduate of Ouachita Baptist University. My undergraduate work in Biblical Studies, and Greek later led me to Wheaton College Graduate School for a master’s degree in Christian Formation and Ministry with extra work in biblical languages.
Weekly Topics:
Week 1 –What is a gospel, why do we have four of them, and how do we read them?
Week 2 –The Kingdom of God: What is it, and where does it fit in the story
Week 3 –Miracles and the Kingdom of God Part 1: Casting out demons and controlling nature
Week 4 –Miracles and the Kingdom of God Part 2: Healing people and raising the dead
