Kid Life Groups: August 2

God Created the World

Today in KidLife Groups children learn that God created the world from nothing. The creation story demonstrates God’s amazing power and His love for us. He created us to praise and love Him.

Remind your child that God created the world from nothing. Ask your child to make a list of her favorite things in God’s creation. Challenge her to create a poem or song of praise for those things.

Use these simple steps to guide your family during today’s Life Group time.

Step 1: Print Activity Pages

Print one for each child. This is a great tool to have as you go through the videos. Each download includes the Activity Page for your child and a One Conversation page for you to use with the Bible reference and story.

Step 2: Watch Bible Story Video

Before you press play, sit together and pray. Thank God for this special day to worship and learn about Him. Then, watch the Bible story video together.

1st-5th Grade

BEANBAG IT!

  • Explain that the Bible has two main divisions: the Old Testament and the New Testament. Show the divisions on the Table of Contents page and where the divisions are in a Bible.
  • Place the paper plates on the floor near a wall. Let kids take turns tossing a beanbag or roll up pair of socks, or bag of rice onto a paper plate and then locating in the Table of Contents a Bible book in that testament.
  • Kids who are familiar with using their Bibles may be assigned a Bible book and then toss the beanbag onto the correct testament. They can check a Bible to find whether they are correct.

  • Direct kids to Genesis 1:11-12 in their Bibles. Help them list things God created that are named in the verses. Ask kids what God used to create the world. (nothing) Ask what God made first, second, next, and so forth until He was finished with His creation.
  • Suggest kids make planters or use a clay pot in which they can plant seeds or small plants to remind them of God’s creation. Point out that the verses they read mention that God made seeds so plants could make more plants.
  • Encourage kids to write out the Weekly Verse, Genesis 1:31, on a paper. Let kids tape their verses to planters or pots to their containers. Kids may add stickers or other decorations as desired.
  • Give each child potting soil to pour into the container. Guide kids to make a small indention in the soil and place seeds or a small plant in the indention. Kids then cover the seeds or anchor the plant with the soil. Assist kids in sprinkling the soil with a small amount of water. Urge the kids to care for the plants God made by watering them and providing sunlight. Suggest kids thank God for His wonderful world each time they water the plants.

LIFE ACTION
Items needed: colored pencils, paper

  • Set out the colored pencils.
  • Instruct each person to think about one of her favorite outdoor places then sketch a picture of that place on a sheet of paper. Encourage kids to include any plants, animals, or things they remember.
  • Remind kids that when God created the world and everything in it, He spoke and it was created instantly.
  • Invite kids to share their pictures and then ask: “Was it hard to remember all the beautiful things in your place? When was the last time you stopped to thank God for all the beautiful things He created there?”
  • Share that, even in the beginning, God had us in mind when He created the world and everything in it.
  • Guide kids to find and read John 1:1-3, a reminder that Jesus was present with God at creation. ʹ Challenge kids to take notice of all the things God has given to them through His creation and to stop and thank God for His gifts this week.

Build My Life on You

Build My Life on You (KPT Virtual)

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

This song was a part of our Virtual VBS 2020. Our children have missed being at church so much but have adapted to online and virtual in many aspects of their life. The Champions Campus Kids Praise Team has prepared a virtual recording of this song to share with you this reminder and message of hope.

If you feel afraid or like the walls are caving in around you, YOU are not alone. The ENTIRE world is going through something unprecedented and we are ALL walking in this together. We have had so many changes thrown at us one after another. So much information that that we don’t even know how to make sense of it all. BUT there is ONE THING in our life that will not change and will always ground us….ONE THING that will not waver…ONE THING that will not fall. No matter the schedule change….health crisis….job loss….emotional stress…or anything that is going on, if we are believers then we have the SOLID ROCK FOUNDATION of JESUS to stand on. We have HIS HOPE and HIS LOVE and HIS MERCY and HIS GRACE and HIS PEACE to get us through all of these changes. He is a God who keeps HIS PROMISES so hold on to HIS WORD and HIS TRUTH. He says in Isaiah that He will strengthen us and help us and uphold us, so believe in Him. Build your life on Jesus.

Lyrics

Verse 1
When I feel afraid
Like walls are gonna cave around me
I think about the way
Your love and grace and peace
Have found me
I remember what you said
You will never ever leave me
So I’m holding on to all your promises

Chorus
I build my life on you
On the strength of Your love
And Your mercy and truth
On this Rock I stand
Not on shifting sand
I build my life on you Jesus

Verse 2
When the wind and rain
Try to wash away my shelter
You will not be moved
The walls you built will stand forever
I remember what you said
You will never ever leave me
So I’m holding on to all your promises

Road to Regathering Update – July 26, 2020

All Sunday services continue online only: championforest.org/services

After much prayer, counsel, and consideration, CFBC developed a decision making process based on conditions, not arbitrary dates. We will keep you updated as we move through our phases. Thank you for staying with us as we navigate this journey!

CURRENT PHASE: RED

One of the primary conditions we are basing our phases on is the Total Texas Medical Center COVID-19 Positive Patients (ICU & Med Surg) In Hospital data.

As we monitor the regional data from the Texas Medical Center, we’ll have a clear picture of the severity of the virus transmission in our region. Our executive team is in close contact with local officials, medical experts, and other pastors and will seek the Lord in making wise decisions on regathering.

Thank you for staying consistent in your generosity. Because of your faithful giving, CFBC is able to stay on mission. You can give through PushPay at championforest.org/give.

Emmanuel, God with us.

Happy Friday, Parents!

In a clip from a 1973 Billy Graham sermon on Habakkuk, with the strong and passionate voice of an evangelist, Dr. Graham preached these words: “Habakkuk said, ‘God please tell me what you’re doing.’ And God said, ‘No. I’m not going to tell you Habakkuk. Because if I told you what I was doing, you wouldn’t believe it.’ If God today told us what He’s doing in the world, we wouldn’t believe it. Don’t you think God’s given up, and God’s abdicated, and God’s left the throne… He hasn’t. He’s still on the throne, and those of us who know Him put our trust in Him and Him alone. When all the rest of it fails and crumbles and shatters, He’ll be there.” He is with us.

My favorite thoughts about Christmas center around the words, “Emmanuel, God with us.” Trouble is sometimes I leave it for December, instead of practicing the presence of God all year long. Cling to this thought today, that He is with us.

Did you listen to Stephanie Chase’s video last week entitled “How to Decide What to Do About School Next Year?” If not, do it now. One clearly stated Truth was this: God’s Word is not Facebook; it is not a blog. By renewing the mind you KNOW His good and perfect will, and the peace that passes all understanding. School decision deadlines are arriving. Uncertainty is still rampant. School districts across the state are still kicking the opening dates down the road. And just like Habakkuk, God hasn’t told us what He’s doing in the world.

But have you been able to spend quality and quantity time “renewing your mind” in the Word this week? Have you let your requests be made known to Him? Are you keeping stride with His good and pleasing and perfect will for your child? Are you trusting He is working all things for your good?

The prayer the Kids Ministry Team Is praying over you this week is from the Numbers 6:22-27, the priestly blessing of Aaron, where he declares blessings of God over the people in the name of the Lord, and from Deuteronomy 28:6 and Exodus 33:14 where He promises His presence (God with us.) The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. May His presence go before you, and behind you, and beside you, all around you, and within you, in your coming and your going. He is with you.

Emmanuel. God with us.

Have you in our hearts,
The Kids Ministry Team

Kid Life Groups: July 26

The Kind Man / Jesus Answered the Ruler’s Question

Today in KidLife Groups children learn that people can choose to follow or not follow God. A rich, young ruler left with sadness after he asked Jesus a question about eternal life.

Review the story of the rich, young ruler. If your child is not yet a Christian, share with him the plan of salvation. (Admit you sin and need a Savior. Believe that Jesus died and rose from the grave to take the punishment for your sin. Confess, or tell, that you trust Jesus as your Savior and Lord.)

3. Read & Discuss The Bible Story Together

Use the Activity Page and One Conversation Page you printed to read and discuss the Bible Story together. Select an activity and talk about how it goes along with the story.

Activities

Babies-Kinder

One’s & Two’s
Care For Sick Babies
Gather: Baby dolls, toy baby-care items.

  • Invite your child to help you care for the sick babies.
  • Suggest that your child wrap the babies in blankets.
  • Talk about the Bible story as your child is helping the babies.
  • Say: “Jesus wants us to choose to be kind and help people.”

Three’s – PreK
Find The Objects
Gather: Kids Activity Page, plastic bin, pom-poms (or other filler), self-adhesive bandages, small pieces of gauze, cotton swabs, plastic tweezers.

  • Fill a plastic bin with pom-poms. Hide bandages, gauze, and cotton swabs in the bin.
  • Lead your child to play in the sensory bin, looking for hidden first aid items using plastic tweezers.
  • Review the Bible story, highlighting how the Samaritan man helped the hurt man by bandaging his wounds and taking him to a nearby inn.
  • Note that the kind man chose to help. Say that people can choose to help. Add that God allows people to make right and wrong choices. Choosing to help is the right choice.

Kindergarten
Make A Book
Gather: Kids Activity Page, heavyweight paper, hole punch or stapler, markers, crayons, pencils.

  • Fold or cut the paper in half, widthwise. Provide your child with at least two pieces of paper.
  • Ask your child to write I Can Make Choices on the front of their books. Have child draw pictures and write words about choices they can make.
  • Talk about the Bible story and the choice that the ruler made.
  • When your child finishes, you can staple or bind their book pages together.
  • Remind your child that one choice they can make is to love God.

1st-5th Grade

Keep Up

  • Inflate a balloon.
  • Have family volley the balloon while saying the books of the Bible.
  • If balloon touches the floor, the family should look up the last book they named in the Bible.
  • Play a couple rounds and see how far your family can go!

Follow the Leader

  • Get 5 Solo Cups and number 1-5
  • List actions on a sheet of paper (walk & talk like robots, tip-toe around room quietly as possible, walk backwards counting to 10, act like you are paddling a boat, etc.)
  • Place each action in a cup
  • Choose a family member to pick a cup and lead your family doing that action.
  • After all actions have been chosen, tell your family they chose to follow the leader just like today they will learn that someone had the choice to follow or not follow Jesus.

To Do or Not To Do

  • We make choices every day and are responsible for those choices.
  • Click here (insert To Do or Not To Do) to get cards.
  • Have kids choose which choice on the card is right.
  • Then as a family act out the right choice.
  • Discuss what would happen if they chose the wrong choice.

Box of Choices

  • Grab a box with a lid and assortment of unbreakable household items including some that are a little bigger than the box can hold.
  • Ask your child/children how many items do they think will fit into the box.
  • Have kids test out their guesses and see if their estimates were correct.
  • Talk to your kids about how they had to carefully choose which items to place in the box, just like sometimes we have to carefully choose our decisions in life.

Memory Verse Review

  • On some index cards print a few words of Psalm 119:34 and place index cards in a bag.
  • Have your child find Psalm 119:34 and read it aloud.
  • Have your child blindfolded, then have the rest of the family give the child directions as they need to put the index cards in order.
  • Remind your child that following directions can sometimes be hard, but we should always follow God’s directions no matter how hard, because His choices for our life are good.

4. Missions Emphasis

  • Show the video “Meet Daniel Byrd,” or review the missions story.
  • Discuss how Daniel gave up a good job in America to move to Romania to serve the Roma people. Comment that one way kids can support missionaries like Daniel is by choosing to do without extra items and contributing instead to a missions offering.
  • Challenge kids to arrange pieces of yarn in the shape of an item they could do without in order to support missions work.
  • Invite kids to describe their creations.
  • Ask God to help kids desire to put God’s kingdom first.

5. Pray

  • Thank God for hearing our prayers and helping us make good choices.
  • Thank God for sending Jesus to die on the cross to forgive us of our sins when we make bad choices.
  • Ask God to help everyone make good choices this week.
  • Ask God to help us desire to put God’s Kingdom first.
  • Ask God to help us not love our possessions so much that it comes in the way of our love for God.
