{"id":904,"date":"2020-08-01T00:10:45","date_gmt":"2020-08-01T05:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=904"},"modified":"2020-07-28T16:39:15","modified_gmt":"2020-07-28T21:39:15","slug":"8-1-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/8-1-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotional-August 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>August 1, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the next 13 days we will be spending time together walking through the book of Hebrews! Hebrews is written to Jewish Christians who were undergoing persecution for their faith and considering running back to Judaism. The author of Hebrews takes an in-depth look at the practices and regulations of the Old Testament as articulated in the Torah and argues for how Jesus is both superior to each of them and supreme over all of them! The author also warns his audience of the grave danger facing them should they choose to now reject Jesus and return to their former way of life. These warnings can and should make us feel uncomfortable as we read through the book together; allow the Spirit to do what He wants to do in your heart through them! Overall, the message of Hebrews is that Jesus, the Son of God as well as our Savior and Messiah, is infinitely superior to anything or anyone else we could give our lives to, and He is worthy of all our devotion and worship. Jesus is greater!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the beginning of this chapter the author explains that not only is Jesus greater than the angels, but He is also far greater than Moses himself! Moses led God\u2019s people out of slavery in Egypt; Jesus delivered God\u2019s people from the slavery to sin. Moses built the tabernacle; Jesus built the entire universe! Moses was faithful in his calling and was a servant of God; Jesus was faithful in His and is God\u2019s own Son!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After demonstrating the superiority of Jesus over Moses, the author goes on to give another strong warning concerning the rebellion that the people of Israel who followed Moses participated in. This time the author, having just contrasted Moses with Jesus, contrasts the response of those who followed Moses with the response we who follow Jesus ought to have to His leadership.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quoting extensively from the Old Testament (Psalm 95 specifically), the author reminds his audience that those who followed Moses were unable to enter the rest that God had prepared for them in the Promised Land due to their hard hearts, their willful rebellion and unbelief. In contrast, he calls followers of Christ to exhort and encourage one another to continue in the faith!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Moses was great (and he was), and if the revelation of God through Moses was great (and it was), then how much greater should our devotion and belief towards Jesus be? If Christ is so vastly superior to Moses and all that Moses represents, we must take great care not to fall into the same trap that Moses\u2019 followers fell into. We must hold fast to Jesus and give Him our all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-305f97f ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-305f97f-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-305f97f-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-305f97f-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-305f97f-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hebrews 3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Greater Than Moses<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3\u00a0<\/strong>Therefore, holy brothers,\u00a0you who share in\u00a0a heavenly calling, consider Jesus,\u00a0the apostle and high priest of our confession,\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>who was faithful to him who appointed him,\u00a0just as Moses also was faithful in all God&#8217;s\u00a0house.<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses\u2014as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>(For every house is built by someone, but\u00a0the builder of all things is God.)<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>Now Moses was faithful in all God&#8217;s house\u00a0as a servant,\u00a0to testify to the things that were to be spoken later,\u00a0<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>but Christ is faithful over God&#8217;s house as\u00a0a son. And\u00a0we are his house, if indeed we\u00a0hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Rest for the People of God<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday, if you hear his voice,<br><sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;on the day of testing in the wilderness,<br><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>where your fathers put me to the test<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and saw my works for&nbsp;forty years.<br><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>Therefore I was provoked with that generation,<br>and said, \u2018They always go astray in their heart;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;they have not known my ways.\u2019<br><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>As I swore in my wrath,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u2018They shall not enter my rest.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from&nbsp;the living God.&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;exhort one another every day, as long as it is called \u201ctoday,\u201d that none of you may be hardened by&nbsp;the deceitfulness of sin.&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>For we have come to share in Christ,&nbsp;if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>As it is said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday, if you hear his voice,<br>do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>For&nbsp;who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not&nbsp;all those who left Egypt led by Moses?&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And with whom was he provoked for forty years?
