The book of Proverbs is a collection of short sayings in the Old Testament meant to instill wisdom <\/em><\/strong>in God\u2019s people. As we read, it is important to remember that a proverb is a statement which is generally<\/em> true in principle, not a universally <\/em>true promise. Let\u2019s dig into the Word together and allow the Lord to shape our hearts, our minds, and our lives in his wisdom over the next month!<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the first part of Proverbs 10, we are given wise instruction about things to avoid, and also the things that matter most.\u00a0The key to living a life without regret, a life pleasing to the Lord, is integrity.\u00a0Integrity has often been defined as \u201calways doing the right thing, even when no one is watching\u201d.\u00a0Of course, we know that God is always watching, and we want to honor Him.\u00a0Here in Proverbs we are reminded that when we live a life of honesty and integrity, we can \u201cwalk securely\u201d (v.9), knowing that He is with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Living a life of integrity is not just about our actions, but also about our words.\u00a0Words are powerful.\u00a0They can lift others up, give hope, give comfort and peace. Or they can destroy others, causing great grief and despair.\u00a0In this part of Proverbs 10, the writer contrasts the \u201cmouth of the fool\u201d (v.14) with the \u201cmouth of the righteous\u201d (v.11), and reminds us that controlling our tongue is vital to our life and relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally, in the last part of the chapter, we are given a list of blessings that are given to the \u201crighteous\u201d. When we live a life of integrity, watching what we say and do, honoring God with our actions and our words, then \u201cthe desire of the righteous will be granted\u201d (v.24). What an amazing reminder, that He wants what is best for us!\u00a0He only asks that we follow Him wholeheartedly, living a life of honesty, integrity and love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
