{"id":436,"date":"2020-04-16T00:30:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-16T06:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=436"},"modified":"2020-04-16T00:35:55","modified_gmt":"2020-04-16T06:35:55","slug":"april-16-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/april-16-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Luke 24:36-49"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>April 16, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this passage we see Jesus appear to the disciples that were gathered together. John\u2019s account of this event informs us that the disciples were in a room with the doors locked because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just days before, the disciples had shamefully forsaken Jesus and fled whenever their Master was crucified. They allowed their disbelief in Jesus\u2019 words and their fear to take precedent over their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, when Jesus appears to these disciples He does not utter one word of rebuke or impart shame on their fear and lack of faith. Calmly and quietly He appears in the midst of them and the first words He speaks to these followers are, \u201cPeace to you!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The disciples were most likely filled with fear and experiencing shame, abandonment, and confusion. Whenever Jesus appeared it is possible that they were immediately anticipating some form of rebuke from their Master, yet the Risen Savior sought to calm them and bring them peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-2a13303 ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-2a13303-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-2a13303-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-2a13303-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-2a13303-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Luke 24:36-49<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Appears to His Disciples<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>36&nbsp;<\/sup>As they were talking about these things,&nbsp;Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them,&nbsp;\u201cPeace to you!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>37&nbsp;<\/sup>But they were&nbsp;startled and&nbsp;frightened and&nbsp;thought they saw a spirit.&nbsp;<sup>38&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cWhy are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?&nbsp;<sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.&nbsp;Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>40&nbsp;<\/sup>And when he had said this,&nbsp;he showed them his hands and his feet.&nbsp;<sup>41&nbsp;<\/sup>And while they still disbelieved&nbsp;for joy and were marveling,&nbsp;he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cHave you anything here to eat?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>42&nbsp;<\/sup>They gave him a piece of broiled fish,&nbsp;<sup>43&nbsp;<\/sup>and he took it and ate before them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>44&nbsp;<\/sup>Then he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cThese are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you,&nbsp;that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>45&nbsp;<\/sup>Then&nbsp;he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,&nbsp;<sup>46&nbsp;<\/sup>and said to them,&nbsp;\u201cThus&nbsp;it is written,&nbsp;that the Christ should suffer and on the third day&nbsp;rise from the dead,&nbsp;<sup>47&nbsp;<\/sup>and that&nbsp;repentance for&nbsp;the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed&nbsp;in his name&nbsp;to all nations,&nbsp;beginning from Jerusalem.&nbsp;<sup>48&nbsp;<\/sup>You are witnesses of these things.&nbsp;<sup>49&nbsp;<\/sup>And behold, I am sending&nbsp;the promise of my Father upon you. Fear? Shame? Abandonment? Confusion?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In what area of your life do you need the calming presence of Jesus and the \u201cpeace that surpasses all understanding\u201d? (Phil. 4:7). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus desires for you to cast all of your anxieties on Him (1 Pet. 5:7). Are you willing to surrender all that you are and everything you are experiencing into the faithful hands of Jesus? To the One who has authority over <em>all <\/em>things, and the One that is <em>for <\/em>you and \u201cwith you to the end of the age\u201d?
