While they are on their way there the risen Jesus appears to\nthem, and we see a few things take place:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>They are, mysteriously, kept from recognizing\nHim at first. We see this as a recurring theme in multiple gospel accounts (see\nJohn 20:14-16; John 21:4-7)<\/li><li>Jesus explains the Old Testament Scriptures to\nthem and how they all point to Him<\/li><li>Jesus eats with them and they finally recognize\nHim when he breaks the bread<\/li><li>They run back to tell the other disciples what\nhappened<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-d0ac207 ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-d0ac207-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-d0ac207-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-d0ac207-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-d0ac207-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Luke 24:13-35<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On the Road to Emmaus<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>That very day&nbsp;two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles&nbsp;from Jerusalem,&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cWhat is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?\u201d&nbsp;And they stood still, looking sad.&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, \u201cAre you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cWhat things?\u201d&nbsp;And they said to him, \u201cConcerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was&nbsp;a prophet&nbsp;mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>and&nbsp;how our chief priests and&nbsp;rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>But we had hoped that he was&nbsp;the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now&nbsp;the third day since these things happened.&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>Moreover, some women of our company amazed us.&nbsp;They were at the tomb early in the morning,&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>and&nbsp;when they did not find his body, they came back saying that&nbsp;they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cO foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>Was it not necessary that&nbsp;the Christ should suffer these things and enter into&nbsp;his glory?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;beginning with&nbsp;Moses and&nbsp;all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>So they drew near to the village to which they were going.&nbsp;He acted as if he were going farther,&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>but they urged him strongly, saying, \u201cStay with us, for it is toward evening and&nbsp;the day is now far spent.\u201d So he went in to stay with them.&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>When he was at table with them, he took the bread and&nbsp;blessed and broke it and gave it to them.&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And&nbsp;he vanished from their sight.&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>They said to each other,&nbsp;\u201cDid not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he&nbsp;opened to us the Scriptures?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. As believers, we have all been made a part of God\u2019s story, and\nthat story started long before Jesus took on flesh and was born of the virgin\nMary. In order to understand the fullness of who Jesus really is and how we fit\ninto His story, we have to immerse ourselves in the story God is telling\nthroughout the entire Bible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why is it important that we understand the storyline of\nthe Old Testament as a backdrop for understanding who Jesus is and what He came\nto accomplish?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can we you use the time God has given you during this\nseason getting more familiar with the overall story of the Bible and how it all\nculminates in Jesus?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-18bbdcc ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-18bbdcc hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-18bbdcc .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 15, 2020 In this passage we see two disciples on their way to the village of Emmaus.
