{"id":431,"date":"2020-04-14T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-14T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=431"},"modified":"2020-04-13T16:19:04","modified_gmt":"2020-04-13T22:19:04","slug":"april-14-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/april-14-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Matthew 28:11-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>April 14, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We often read this with our present knowledge of the resurrection, and we forget how that first Resurrection Day impacted those around Jesus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first part of this passage the chief priests and elders want to ignore the fact of Jesus\u2019 resurrection. With their lying and continual disbelief their hearts grow harder. We may think of them as foolish trying to stop the plans of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the second part, the disciples meet the resurrected Jesus. As they \u201csee\u201d him their hearts are turned towards worship and then action. Through the reality of the resurrection we, too, receive an ongoing responsibility.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are saved and sent but do we think it is a foolish command to follow through with God\u2019s plans because we won\u2019t\/don\u2019t go?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-b02e0e6 ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-b02e0e6-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-b02e0e6-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-b02e0e6-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-b02e0e6-content-wrapper\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Matthew 28:11-20<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Report of the Guard<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>While they were going, behold, some of&nbsp;the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>and said, \u201cTell people,&nbsp;\u2018His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>And if this comes to&nbsp;the governor&#8217;s ears, we will&nbsp;satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews&nbsp;to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Great Commission<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>Now the eleven disciples\u00a0went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>And when they saw him they\u00a0worshiped him, but some doubted.\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus came and said to them,\u00a0\u201cAll authority\u00a0in heaven and on earth has been given to me.\u00a0<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>Go therefore and\u00a0make disciples of\u00a0all nations,\u00a0baptizing them\u00a0in\u00a0the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,\u00a0<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>teaching them\u00a0to observe all that\u00a0I have commanded you.
