{"id":412,"date":"2020-04-12T01:00:16","date_gmt":"2020-04-12T06:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=412"},"modified":"2025-03-26T17:05:45","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T22:05:45","slug":"april-12-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/april-12-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"John 20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>April 12, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Happy Resurrection Day!&nbsp;<strong>Praise God that the tomb is empty and Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to many!<\/strong>&nbsp;As we read John 20, may we rejoice in hope!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-8055d5d ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-8055d5d-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-8055d5d-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-8055d5d-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-8055d5d-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">John  20<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Resurrection<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>1&nbsp;Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that&nbsp;the stone had been taken away from the tomb.&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple,&nbsp;the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, \u201cThey have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and&nbsp;we do not know where they have laid him.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb.&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>And stooping to look in, he saw&nbsp;the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there,&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>and&nbsp;the face cloth, which had been on Jesus&#8217;&nbsp;head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Then the other disciple,&nbsp;who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>for as yet&nbsp;they did not understand the Scripture,&nbsp;that he must rise from the dead.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>Then the disciples went back to their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;she saw&nbsp;two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>They said to her,&nbsp;\u201cWoman, why are you weeping?\u201d She said to them,&nbsp;\u201cThey have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>Having said this, she turned around and&nbsp;saw Jesus standing,&nbsp;but she did not know that it was Jesus.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to her,&nbsp;\u201cWoman, why are you weeping?&nbsp;Whom are you seeking?\u201d&nbsp;Supposing him to be&nbsp;the gardener, she said to him, \u201cSir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to her,&nbsp;\u201cMary.\u201d&nbsp;She turned and said to him in Aramaic,&nbsp;\u201cRabboni!\u201d (which means Teacher).&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to her,&nbsp;\u201cDo not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to&nbsp;my brothers and say to them,&nbsp;\u2018I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to&nbsp;my God and your God.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>Mary Magdalene&nbsp;went and announced to the disciples, \u201cI have seen the Lord\u201d\u2014and that he had said these things to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Appears to the Disciples<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>On the evening&nbsp;of that day, the first day of the week,&nbsp;the doors being locked where the disciples were&nbsp;for fear of the Jews,&nbsp;Jesus came and stood among them and said to them,&nbsp;\u201cPeace be with you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>When he had said this,&nbsp;he showed them his hands and his side. Then&nbsp;the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to them again,&nbsp;\u201cPeace be with you. As&nbsp;the Father has sent me,&nbsp;even so I am sending you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>And when he had said this, he&nbsp;breathed on them and said to them,&nbsp;\u201cReceive the Holy Spirit.&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus and Thomas<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>Now&nbsp;Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin,&nbsp;was not with them when Jesus came.&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>So the other disciples told him, \u201cWe have seen the Lord.\u201d But he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cUnless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them.&nbsp;Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,&nbsp;\u201cPeace be with you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>Then he said to Thomas,&nbsp;\u201cPut your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>Thomas answered him,&nbsp;\u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to him,&nbsp;\u201cHave you believed because you have seen me?&nbsp;Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Purpose of This Book<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>Now Jesus did many other signs&nbsp;in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>but these are written so that you may&nbsp;believe that Jesus is the Christ,&nbsp;the Son of God, and that by believing&nbsp;you may have life&nbsp;in his name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#ededed\" class=\"has-background\">The Holy Bible, English Standard Version\u00ae (ESV\u00ae), copyright \u00a9 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-2a21b04 ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-2a21b04 hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-2a21b04 .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of John 20 we see the purpose of the book. This is the theme of the gospel of John, that&nbsp;<em>these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name<\/em><strong>. Do you have life in his name through faith in Jesus today?!
