{"id":373,"date":"2020-04-01T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=373"},"modified":"2020-03-30T09:19:45","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T15:19:45","slug":"mark-april-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/mark-april-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Chapter 11"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Day 11: April 1, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first part of Mark\nChapter 11, we see Jesus\u2019 Triumphal entry, and all the people worshipping\nHim.&nbsp; Can you picture it?&nbsp; The throngs of people, throwing their\ncloaks on the ground, waving palm branches and shouting \u201cHosanna!\u201d.&nbsp; What an\nincredible picture, and a stark contrast to what is coming.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the best parts of\nthis passage is at the very beginning, where Jesus gives the disciples specific\ninstructions on where they are to get the donkey he is to ride on (vs.\n2-7).&nbsp; Not only is it an example of their obedience to follow his\ninstructions, but it reminds us that He is in the details and has a carefully\nlaid plan for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This chapter in Mark also\nhas several reminders about true faith and prayer:&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jesus drives the\nmoney-changers out of the temple, reminding them that His house is to be a\n\u201chouse of prayer for all the nations\u201d (vs. 17).&nbsp; <\/li><li>The very next day, he gives\nthe disciples a lesson on faith and forgiveness as they pass the fig tree that\nHe cursed the day before (vs. 14). He tells them to \u201chave faith in God\u201d and to\nnot doubt, but believe. After all, we can\u2019t earn the right to a relationship\nwith God \u2013 it is through&nbsp;<strong>our<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>faith<\/strong>&nbsp;in Him\nand&nbsp;<strong>His<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>forgiveness<\/strong>&nbsp;of our sins.&nbsp; And how can\nwe ask God for forgiveness if we ourselves have not forgiven others?&nbsp; It\nsays in verse 25 \u201cforgive, if you have <strong>ANYTHING<\/strong> against <strong>ANYONE<\/strong>\u201d \u2013\na reminder that there are no limits on forgiveness!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, in the last part\nof the chapter, the chief priests and scribes challenge Jesus\u2019 authority, and\nhe responds perfectly, with a question back to them about John the\nBaptist.&nbsp; When they can\u2019t answer, he refuses to answer their\nquestions.&nbsp;Jesus answers to no one but the Father; He has all authority.\nHe is the perfect Son of God, our Savior and Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-0cfd5de ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-0cfd5de-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-0cfd5de-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-0cfd5de-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-0cfd5de-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mark 11<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Triumphal Entry<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1<\/strong> Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to&nbsp;Bethphage and Bethany, at&nbsp;the Mount of Olives, Jesus&nbsp;sent&nbsp;two of his disciples&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>and said to them,&nbsp;\u201cGo into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied,&nbsp;on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>If anyone says to you, \u2018Why are you doing this?\u2019 say, \u2018The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it.&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>And some of those standing there said to them, \u201cWhat are you doing, untying the colt?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go.&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>And many&nbsp;spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields.&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>And those who went before and those who followed were shouting,&nbsp;\u201cHosanna!&nbsp;Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>Blessed is&nbsp;the coming&nbsp;kingdom of&nbsp;our father&nbsp;David!&nbsp;Hosanna&nbsp;in the highest!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late,&nbsp;he went out to Bethany with the twelve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Curses the Fig Tree<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>On the following day, when they came from Bethany,&nbsp;he was hungry.&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for&nbsp;it was not the season for figs.&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to it,&nbsp;\u201cMay no one ever eat fruit from you again.\u201d&nbsp;And his disciples heard it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Cleanses the Temple<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of&nbsp;the money-changers and the seats of those who sold&nbsp;pigeons.&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple.&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And he was teaching them and saying to them,&nbsp;\u201cIs it not written,&nbsp;\u2018My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations\u2019? But&nbsp;you have made it a den of robbers.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and&nbsp;were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because&nbsp;all the crowd was astonished at his teaching.&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>And when evening came they&nbsp;went out of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lesson from the Withered Fig Tree<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots.&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And Peter remembered and said to him,&nbsp;\u201cRabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus answered them,&nbsp;\u201cHave&nbsp;faith in God.&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain,&nbsp;\u2018Be taken up and thrown into the sea,\u2019 and does not&nbsp;doubt in his heart, but&nbsp;believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>Therefore I tell you,&nbsp;whatever you ask in prayer,&nbsp;believe that you&nbsp;have received&nbsp;it, and it will be yours.&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>And whenever&nbsp;you stand praying,&nbsp;forgive,&nbsp;if you have anything against anyone, so that&nbsp;your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Authority of Jesus Challenged<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him,&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>and they said to him,&nbsp;\u201cBy what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to them,&nbsp;\u201cI will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>Was the baptism of John&nbsp;from heaven or from man?
