And again, as was his custom, he taught them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>And Pharisees came up and in order&nbsp;to test him asked,&nbsp;\u201cIs it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>He answered them,&nbsp;\u201cWhat did Moses command you?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>They said,&nbsp;\u201cMoses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus said to them,&nbsp;\u201cBecause of your&nbsp;hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;from the beginning of creation, \u2018God made them&nbsp;male and female.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>\u2018Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>and&nbsp;the two shall become one flesh.\u2019 So they are no longer two but one flesh.&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter.&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cWhoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her,&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>and&nbsp;if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Let the Children Come to Me<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples&nbsp;rebuked them.&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them,&nbsp;\u201cLet the children come to me;&nbsp;do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>Truly, I say to you, whoever does not&nbsp;receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;he took them in his arms and blessed them,&nbsp;laying his hands on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Rich Young Man<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and&nbsp;knelt before him and asked him, \u201cGood Teacher, what must I do to&nbsp;inherit eternal life?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus said to him,&nbsp;\u201cWhy do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>You know the commandments:&nbsp;\u2018Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to him, \u201cTeacher,&nbsp;all these I have kept from my youth.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus,&nbsp;looking at him,&nbsp;loved him, and said to him,&nbsp;\u201cYou lack one thing: go,&nbsp;sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have&nbsp;treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus&nbsp;looked around and said to his disciples,&nbsp;\u201cHow difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter&nbsp;the kingdom of God!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>And the disciples&nbsp;were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again,&nbsp;\u201cChildren,&nbsp;how difficult it is&nbsp;to enter&nbsp;the kingdom of God!&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter&nbsp;the kingdom of God.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him,&nbsp;\u201cThen who can be saved?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus&nbsp;looked at them and said,&nbsp;\u201cWith man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>Peter began to say to him, \u201cSee,&nbsp;we have left everything and followed you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said,&nbsp;\u201cTruly, I say to you,&nbsp;there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and&nbsp;for the gospel,&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>who will not receive a hundredfold&nbsp;now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands,&nbsp;with persecutions, and in&nbsp;the age to come eternal life.&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;many who are first will be last, and the last first.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and&nbsp;Jesus was walking ahead of them. And&nbsp;they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him,&nbsp;<sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>saying,&nbsp;\u201cSee,&nbsp;we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will&nbsp;condemn him to death and&nbsp;deliver him over to the Gentiles.&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>And they will&nbsp;mock him and&nbsp;spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And&nbsp;after three days he will rise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Request of James and John<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>And James and John,&nbsp;the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, \u201cTeacher, we want you to do for us&nbsp;whatever we ask of you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>36&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cWhat do you want me to do for you?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>37&nbsp;<\/sup>And they said to him, \u201cGrant us&nbsp;to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left,&nbsp;in your glory.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>38&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus said to them,&nbsp;\u201cYou do not know what you are asking. Are you able&nbsp;to drink the cup that I drink, or&nbsp;to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>And they said to him, \u201cWe are able.\u201d And Jesus said to them,&nbsp;\u201cThe cup that I drink&nbsp;you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized,&nbsp;you will be baptized,&nbsp;<sup>40&nbsp;<\/sup>but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant,&nbsp;but it is for those for whom it has been&nbsp;prepared.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>41&nbsp;<\/sup>And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John.&nbsp;<sup>42&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus called them to him and said to them,&nbsp;\u201cYou know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles&nbsp;lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.&nbsp;<sup>43&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,&nbsp;<sup>44&nbsp;<\/sup>and whoever would be first among you must be&nbsp;slave&nbsp;of all.&nbsp;<sup>45&nbsp;<\/sup>For even the Son of Man came not to be served but&nbsp;to serve, and&nbsp;to give his life as a ransom for&nbsp;many.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>46&nbsp;<\/sup>And they came to Jericho. And&nbsp;as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus,&nbsp;a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside.&nbsp;<sup>47&nbsp;<\/sup>And when he heard that it was&nbsp;Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, \u201cJesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>48&nbsp;<\/sup>And many&nbsp;rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, \u201cSon of David, have mercy on me!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>49&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus stopped and said,&nbsp;\u201cCall him.\u201d&nbsp;And they called the blind man, saying to him,&nbsp;\u201cTake heart. Get up; he is calling you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>50&nbsp;<\/sup>And throwing off his&nbsp;cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.&nbsp;<sup>51&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus said to him,&nbsp;\u201cWhat do you want me to do for you?\u201d&nbsp;And the blind man said to him,&nbsp;\u201cRabbi, let me recover my sight.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>52&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus said to him,&nbsp;\u201cGo your way;&nbsp;your faith has&nbsp;made you well.\u201d&nbsp;And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#ededed\" class=\"has-background\">The Holy Bible, English Standard Version\u00ae (ESV\u00ae), copyright \u00a9 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-db716fe ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-db716fe hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-db716fe .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Read verses 51 -52 again.&nbsp; Jesus asked Bartimaeus this question, \u201cWhat\ndo you want me to do for you?\u201d&nbsp; He didn\u2019t\nask what &nbsp;do you want me to do for your\nchildren, your family, your friends, &nbsp;but\nasked a very personal question \u2013 for you.&nbsp;\n&nbsp;Bartimaeus knew his pressing need\nand immediately, without hesitation answered, \u201cI want to see.\u201d &nbsp;And because of his faith, Jesus immediately\nhealed the man. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Answer the same question today, because of your\nfaith:&nbsp; What do you want Me to do for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How can you change your idea of greatness and embrace\nJesus\u2019 idea to include valuing children, serving, and sacrificial giving?&nbsp; Both today, and when our days once again\nreturn to normal?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-58062ec ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-58062ec hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-58062ec .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Day 10: March 31, 2020 Six vignettes in this fast-paced chapter on the ministry of Jesus include: Teaching on divorce Blessing the children Teaching regarding how the rich get to heaven\/who can be saved Jesus predicting His death The misguided request of James and John Healing Bartimaeus.
