{"id":348,"date":"2020-03-30T01:00:19","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T07:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=348"},"modified":"2020-03-30T08:49:53","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T14:49:53","slug":"mark-march-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/mark-march-30\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Chapter 9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Day 9: March 30, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this chapter\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Jesus took Peter, James and John and was transfigured, revealing something of His true nature to a select inner group of disciples<\/li><li>Jesus continues to perform miracles and reveals more of Himself and His purpose to his unruly, but mostly loyal team of men<\/li><li>The disciples argue about which of them is greatest<\/li><li>Jesus talks to his men about his coming death and resurrection and, in several places and ways, begins to raise the value of children by healing one and by taking another in His arms and teaching with the child in the midst of the group<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-679476e ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-679476e-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-679476e-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-679476e-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-679476e-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-679476e-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mark 9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cTruly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not&nbsp;taste death&nbsp;until they see the kingdom of God after it has come&nbsp;with power.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Transfiguration<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>And after six days Jesus took with him&nbsp;Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was&nbsp;transfigured before them,&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>and&nbsp;his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one&nbsp;on earth could bleach them.&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>And Peter said to Jesus,&nbsp;\u201cRabbi,&nbsp;it is good that we are here. Let us make three&nbsp;tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>For&nbsp;he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;a cloud overshadowed them, and&nbsp;a voice came out of the cloud,&nbsp;\u201cThis is my beloved Son;&nbsp;listen to him.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>And as they were coming down the mountain,&nbsp;he charged them to tell no one what they had seen,&nbsp;until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>So they kept the matter to themselves,&nbsp;questioning what this rising from the dead might mean.&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>And they asked him, \u201cWhy do the scribes say&nbsp;that first Elijah must come?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cElijah does come first&nbsp;to restore all things. And&nbsp;how is it written of the Son of Man that he should&nbsp;suffer many things and&nbsp;be treated with contempt?&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>But I tell you that Elijah has come, and&nbsp;they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Heals a Boy with an Unclean Spirit<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him,&nbsp;were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him.&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>And he asked them,&nbsp;\u201cWhat are you arguing about with them?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And someone from the crowd answered him, \u201cTeacher, I brought my son to you, for he has&nbsp;a spirit that makes him mute.&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and&nbsp;they were not able.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>And he answered them,&nbsp;\u201cO&nbsp;faithless generation,&nbsp;how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it&nbsp;convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus asked his father,&nbsp;\u201cHow long has this been happening to him?\u201d&nbsp;And he said, \u201cFrom childhood.&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But&nbsp;if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus said to him,&nbsp;\u201c\u2018If you can\u2019!&nbsp;All things are possible for one who believes.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>Immediately the father of the child cried out&nbsp;and said, \u201cI believe;&nbsp;help my unbelief!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>And when Jesus saw that&nbsp;a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it,&nbsp;\u201cYou mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>And after crying out and&nbsp;convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, \u201cHe is dead.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>But Jesus&nbsp;took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>And when he had&nbsp;entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, \u201cWhy could we not cast it out?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cThis kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know,&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them,&nbsp;\u201cThe Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed,&nbsp;after three days he will rise.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Is the Greatest?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house&nbsp;he asked them,&nbsp;\u201cWhat were you discussing on the way?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>But they kept silent, for on the way&nbsp;they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.&nbsp;<sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cIf anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>36&nbsp;<\/sup>And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and&nbsp;taking him in his arms, he said to them,&nbsp;<sup>37&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cWhoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and&nbsp;whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Anyone Not Against Us Is for Us<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>38&nbsp;<\/sup>John said to him, \u201cTeacher, we saw someone&nbsp;casting out demons in your name,&nbsp;and&nbsp;we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>But Jesus said,&nbsp;\u201cDo not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me.&nbsp;<sup>40&nbsp;<\/sup>For the one who is not against us is for us.&nbsp;<sup>41&nbsp;<\/sup>For truly, I say to you,&nbsp;whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Temptations to Sin<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>42&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cWhoever causes one of&nbsp;these little ones who believe in me to sin,&nbsp;it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.&nbsp;<sup>43&nbsp;<\/sup>And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to&nbsp;hell,&nbsp;to&nbsp;the unquenchable fire.&nbsp;<sup>45&nbsp;<\/sup>And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into&nbsp;hell.&nbsp;<sup>47&nbsp;<\/sup>And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out.
