{"id":296,"date":"2020-03-22T01:00:37","date_gmt":"2020-03-22T07:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=296"},"modified":"2020-03-24T23:13:44","modified_gmt":"2020-03-25T05:13:44","slug":"mark-march-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/mark-march-22\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Chapter 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Day 1:<\/strong> <em>March 22, 2020<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mark\u2019s gospel begins with an action-packed sequence of events!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In only 13 verses the narrative moves from the ministry of John the Baptist<em><strong> (v.1-8)<\/strong><\/em>, and through Jesus\u2019 baptism and temptation (v.9-13) to the beginning of Jesus\u2019 public ministry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus proclaims that <strong>\u201cthe time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand\u201d <em>(v.15)<\/em><\/strong> and then demonstrates the nearness of the kingdom by preaching the gospel, performing miracles, and casting out demons throughout the region of Galilee (v.21-45). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Jesus\u2019 ministry we see a picture of God\u2019s kingdom coming near to us: the sick are healed, the broken are made whole, and the forces of the enemy are defeated!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-dc83d49 ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-dc83d49-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-dc83d49-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-dc83d49-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-dc83d49-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mark 1<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">John the Baptist Prepares the Way<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1&nbsp;<\/strong>The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ,&nbsp;the Son of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBehold, I send my messenger before your face,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;who will prepare your way,<br><sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>the voice of one crying in the wilderness:<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u2018Prepare&nbsp;the way of the Lord,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;make his paths straight,\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>John appeared, baptizing in&nbsp;the wilderness and proclaiming&nbsp;a baptism of&nbsp;repentance&nbsp;for the forgiveness of sins.&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan,&nbsp;confessing their sins.&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>Now John was&nbsp;clothed with camel&#8217;s hair and&nbsp;wore a leather belt around his waist and ate&nbsp;locusts and&nbsp;wild honey.&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>And he preached, saying,&nbsp;\u201cAfter me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>I have baptized you with water, but&nbsp;he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Baptism of Jesus<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>In those days Jesus&nbsp;came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>And when he came up out of the water, immediately he&nbsp;saw&nbsp;the heavens being torn open&nbsp;and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;a voice came from heaven,&nbsp;\u201cYou are my beloved Son;&nbsp;with you I am well pleased.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Temptation of Jesus<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>And he was in the wilderness forty days, being&nbsp;tempted by&nbsp;Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and&nbsp;the angels were ministering to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Begins His Ministry<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>Now after John was arrested, Jesus&nbsp;came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God,&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>and saying,&nbsp;\u201cThe time is fulfilled, and&nbsp;the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Calls the First Disciples<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And Jesus said to them,&nbsp;\u201cFollow me, and I will make you become&nbsp;fishers of men.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>And immediately they left their nets and followed him.&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets.&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Heals a Man with an Unclean Spirit<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And they went into Capernaum, and immediately&nbsp;on the Sabbath&nbsp;he entered the synagogue and was teaching.&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;they were astonished at his teaching,&nbsp;for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cWhat have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us?&nbsp;I know who you are\u2014the Holy One of God.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>But Jesus&nbsp;rebuked him, saying,&nbsp;\u201cBe silent, and come out of him!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>And the unclean spirit,&nbsp;convulsing him and&nbsp;crying out with a loud voice, came out of him.&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>And they were all&nbsp;amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, \u201cWhat is this?&nbsp;A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Heals Many<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>And immediately he&nbsp;left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>Now&nbsp;Simon&#8217;s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her.&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>And he came and&nbsp;took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or&nbsp;oppressed by demons.&nbsp;<sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>And the whole city was gathered together at the door.&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And&nbsp;he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Preaches in Galilee<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and&nbsp;there he prayed.&nbsp;<sup>36&nbsp;<\/sup>And Simon and those who were with him searched for him,&nbsp;<sup>37&nbsp;<\/sup>and they found him and said to him,&nbsp;\u201cEveryone is looking for you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>38&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cLet us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also, for&nbsp;that is why I came out.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Cleanses a Leper<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>40&nbsp;<\/sup>And a leper&nbsp;came to him, imploring him, and&nbsp;kneeling said to him,&nbsp;\u201cIf you will, you can make me clean.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>41&nbsp;<\/sup>Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him,&nbsp;\u201cI will; be clean.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>42&nbsp;<\/sup>And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.&nbsp;<sup>43&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;Jesus&nbsp;sternly charged him and sent him away at once,&nbsp;<sup>44&nbsp;<\/sup>and said to him,&nbsp;\u201cSee that you say nothing to anyone, but go,&nbsp;show yourself to the priest and&nbsp;offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded,&nbsp;for a proof to them.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>45&nbsp;<\/sup>But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter&nbsp;a town, but was out in&nbsp;desolate places, and&nbsp;people were coming to him from every quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#ededed\" class=\"has-background\">The Holy Bible, English Standard Version\u00ae (ESV\u00ae), copyright \u00a9 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-4f32cb4 ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-4f32cb4 hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-4f32cb4 .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In what specific ways can you be praying for the healing, transforming, and mighty power of God\u2019s kingdom to be manifested during this time?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-932d8c4 ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-932d8c4 hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-932d8c4 .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Day 1: March 22, 2020 Mark\u2019s gospel begins with an action-packed sequence of events!
