Simon Peter,\u00a0Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of\u00a0Cana in Galilee,\u00a0the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, \u201cI am going fishing.\u201d They said to him, \u201cWe will go with you.\u201d They went out and got into the boat, but\u00a0that night they caught nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples\u00a0did not know that it was Jesus.\u00a0Jesus said to them,\u00a0\u201cChildren, do you have any fish?\u201d\u00a0They answered him, \u201cNo.\u201d\u00a0He said to them,\u00a0\u201cCast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.\u201d\u00a0So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.\u00a0That disciple\u00a0whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, \u201cIt is the Lord!\u201d When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord,\u00a0he put on his outer garment, for he was\u00a0stripped for work, and\u00a0threw himself into the sea.\u00a0The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards\u00a0off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread.\u00a0Jesus said to them,\u00a0\u201cBring some of the fish that you have just caught.\u201d So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them,\u00a0\u201cCome and\u00a0have breakfast.\u201d\u00a0Now\u00a0none of the disciples dared ask him, \u201cWho are you?\u201d They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and\u00a0took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jesus and Peter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When they had\u00a0finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter,\u00a0\u201cSimon,\u00a0son of John,\u00a0do you love me more than these?\u201d\u00a0He said to him, \u201cYes, Lord; you know that I love you.\u201d He said to him,\u00a0\u201cFeed\u00a0my lambs.&#8221; He said to him a second time,\u00a0\u201cSimon, son of John, do you love me?\u201d\u00a0He said to him, \u201cYes, Lord; you know that I love you.\u201d He said to him,\u00a0\u201cTend\u00a0my sheep.&#8221; He said to him the third time,\u00a0\u201cSimon, son of John, do you love me?\u201d\u00a0Peter was grieved because he said to him\u00a0the third time,\u00a0\u201cDo you love me?\u201d\u00a0and he said to him, \u201cLord,\u00a0you know everything; you know that I love you.\u201d Jesus said to him,\u00a0\u201cFeed\u00a0my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young,\u00a0you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.\u201d (This he said to show\u00a0by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him,\u00a0\u201cFollow me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jesus and the Beloved Apostle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peter turned and saw\u00a0the disciple whom Jesus loved following them,\u00a0the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, \u201cLord, who is it that is going to betray you?\u201d\u00a0When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, \u201cLord, what about this man?\u201d Jesus said to him,\u00a0\u201cIf it is my will that he remain\u00a0until\u00a0I come, what is that to you?\u00a0You follow me!&#8221; So the saying spread abroad among\u00a0the brothers\u00a0that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but,\u00a0\u201cIf it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the disciple\u00a0who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and\u00a0we know\u00a0that his testimony is true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now\u00a0there are also many other things that Jesus did. Jesus asks Peter three times if he loves Him, reflecting the three previous denials (John 18:15-27). After each response, Jesus gives him a mission: \u201cFeed my lambs\u2026 take care of my sheep\u201d (John 21:15-17). Finally, He says, \u201cFollow me\u201d (John 21:19).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This invitation not only restores Peter but also reaffirms his purpose. Even though Peter had failed, Jesus&#8217; plan for him remained. Years earlier, Jesus had already told him, \u201cCome, follow me\u201d (Matthew 4:19). Now, after his failure, He repeats, \u201cFollow me.\u201d Jesus calls us to follow Him not only in success but also in our daily failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three Aspects of \u201cFollow Me\u201d for Peter and for You<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Follow Me in Your Calling<\/strong><br>Jesus reminds Peter of his mission to care for others. Your mistakes do not cancel God&#8217;s purpose (Romans 11:29). He heals those who return to Him with a sincere heart. <strong>What mission has Jesus given you?<\/strong> Don\u2019t let failures hold you back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Follow Me in Your Restoration<\/strong><br>The grace of Jesus allows you to start anew (1 John 1:9). Restoration in Christ renews you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Follow Me in Your Total Surrender<\/strong><br>Following Jesus involves sacrifice (Matthew 10:38).<strong> Are you willing to follow Jesus without reservations?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, when Jesus says, \u201cFollow me,\u201d He is not looking at your past but at your present and future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-f0575d6 ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\"><style>.ugb-f0575d6 hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-f0575d6 .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the final chapter of the Gospel of John, a profound conversation between Jesus and Peter is recounted after the resurrection.
