He saw the linen cloths lying there,\u00a0and\u00a0the face cloth, which had been on Jesus\u2019\u00a0head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.\u00a0Then the other disciple,\u00a0who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;\u00a0for as yet\u00a0they did not understand the Scripture,\u00a0that he must rise from the dead. Then the disciples went back to their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. And\u00a0she saw\u00a0two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.\u00a0They said to her,\u00a0\u201cWoman, why are you weeping?\u201d She said to them,\u00a0\u201cThey have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.\u201d Having said this, she turned around and\u00a0saw Jesus standing,\u00a0but she did not know that it was Jesus.\u00a0Jesus said to her,\u00a0\u201cWoman, why are you weeping?\u00a0Whom are you seeking?\u201d\u00a0Supposing him to be\u00a0the gardener, she said to him, \u201cSir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.\u201d\u00a0Jesus said to her,\u00a0\u201cMary.\u201dShe turned and said to him in Aramaic,\u00a0\u00a0\u201cRabboni!\u201d (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her,\u00a0\u201cDo not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to\u00a0my brothers and say to them,\u00a0\u2018I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to\u00a0my God and your God.'&#8221; Mary Magdalene\u00a0went and announced to the disciples, \u201cI have seen the Lord\u201d\u2014and that he had said these things to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jesus Appears to the Disciples<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the evening\u00a0of that day, the first day of the week,\u00a0the doors being locked where the disciples were\u00a0for fear of the Jews,\u00a0Jesus came and stood among them and said to them,\u00a0\u201cPeace be with you.\u201d\u00a0When he had said this,\u00a0he showed them his hands and his side. Then\u00a0the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.\u00a0Jesus said to them again,\u00a0\u201cPeace be with you. As\u00a0the Father has sent me,\u00a0even so I am sending you.\u201d\u00a0And when he had said this, he\u00a0breathed on them and said to them,\u00a0\u201cReceive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jesus and Thomas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now\u00a0Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin,\u00a0was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, \u201cWe have seen the Lord.\u201d But he said to them,\u00a0\u201cUnless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them.\u00a0Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said,\u00a0\u201cPeace be with you.\u201d\u00a0Then he said to Thomas,\u00a0\u201cPut your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.\u201d\u00a0Thomas answered him,\u00a0\u201cMy Lord and my God!\u201d Jesus said to him,\u00a0\u201cHave you believed because you have seen me?\u00a0Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Purpose of This Book<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now Jesus did many other signs\u00a0in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;\u00a0but these are written so that you may\u00a0believe that Jesus is the Christ,\u00a0the Son of God, and that by believing\u00a0you may have life\u00a0in his name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f2f2;font-size:12px\">Scripture quotations are from the ESV\u00ae Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version\u00ae), copyright \u00a9 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Disappointed. Discouraged. Fearful. Perplexed. Downcast. Lost. The disciples and followers of Jesus hit rock bottom. There seemed to be no hope, no future. Until\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until God began to fully reveal what He had already planned, promised, and knew. Jesus had told them before, but they either chose not to believe or didn\u2019t comprehend it. But that didn\u2019t stop God\u2014He was still faithful to His word: the angel rolling away the stone and Jesus\u2019 body missing from the tomb, Jesus\u2019 gentle encounter with Mary, and Jesus\u2019 two surprise appearances to the disciples behind locked doors. Nothing could keep Jesus in the grave, and nothing could keep God from fulfilling His promise. With each appearance, Jesus expressed His love and care for His followers: Peace be with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peace. Such a short word that belies the change it can bring to a life. It wasn\u2019t just what the disciples needed or wanted, it\u2019s what we all still want today and what man has sought for two thousand years. Are you overwhelmed, disappointed, fearful, or lost in life? Jesus is there, and He brings peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does that feel impossible for your situation? Think again. If the tomb is empty, anything is possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are you seeking peace today? It\u2019s available for you just as surely as it was for the disciples.
