As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.\u00a0I am the vine;\u00a0you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that\u00a0bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me\u00a0he is thrown away like a branch and withers;\u00a0and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If\u00a0you abide in me, and my words abide in you,\u00a0ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you\u00a0bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me,\u00a0so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as\u00a0I have kept\u00a0my Father\u2019s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you,\u00a0that my joy may be in you, and that\u00a0your joy may be full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this,\u00a0that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are\u00a0my friends\u00a0if you do what I command you.\u00a0\u00a0No longer do I call you servants,\u00a0\u00a0for the servant\u00a0does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for\u00a0all that I have heard from my Father\u00a0I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but\u00a0I chose you and appointed you that you should go and\u00a0bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that\u00a0whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you,\u00a0so that you will love one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Hatred of the World<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because\u00a0you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you:\u00a0\u2018A servant is not greater than his master.\u2019 If they persecuted me,\u00a0they will also persecute you.\u00a0If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But\u00a0all these things they will do to you\u00a0on account of my name,\u00a0because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them,\u00a0they would not have been guilty of sin,\u00a0\u00a0but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works that no one else did,\u00a0they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have\u00a0seen and hated both me and my Father. But\u00a0the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled:\u00a0\u2018They hated me without a cause.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he will bear witness about me. Regardless of your age, stage of life, location, status, or title, your assignment remains the same: bear fruit. It\u2019s not a command; it\u2019s an expectation\u2014but not one we are left to fulfill on our own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, it\u2019s impossible for us to bear fruit by ourselves. Just as a branch cannot grow if it is disconnected from the vine, we, too, can only bear fruit if we remain connected to our &#8216;true vine,&#8217; Jesus. Jesus refers to this connection as &#8216;abiding in Him,&#8217; &#8216;His Word,&#8217; and &#8216;His love.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some translations may say &#8216;remain in&#8217; or &#8216;stay.&#8217; Abiding and bearing fruit go hand in hand. The &#8216;fruit&#8217; Jesus refers to includes the results of a believer&#8217;s life that benefit others and glorify God. The Bible isn\u2019t clear on what \u201cabiding in\u201d should look like in our lives, but as believers we know the importance of the practice of spiritual disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Daily, are you:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connecting with Him?&nbsp; (through worship, prayer, or journaling)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exchanging with Him?&nbsp; (reading His Word, confessing sin, listening to Him)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Living out your faith?&nbsp; (applying His Word to your life)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abiding in Christ is not a box we can check, but a daily choice of living in him that nurtures a personal relationship with Jesus.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Would someone that you admire in the faith say that your life is one that bears fruit?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-f0575d6 ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\"><style>.ugb-f0575d6 hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-f0575d6 .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first half of John 15 makes our lifelong assignment clear: we are to bear fruit.
