The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.&#8221; This figure of speech Jesus\u00a0used with them, but they\u00a0did not understand what he was saying to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So Jesus again said to them,\u00a0\u201cTruly, truly, I say to you,\u00a0I am the door of the sheep.\u00a0\u00a0All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.\u00a0\u00a0I am the door. If anyone enters by me,\u00a0he will be saved and will go in and out and\u00a0find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and\u00a0kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd\u00a0lays down his life for the sheep. He who is\u00a0a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and\u00a0leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and\u00a0scatters them. He flees because\u00a0he is a hired hand and\u00a0cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd.\u00a0I know my own and\u00a0my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and\u00a0I lay down my life for the sheep. And\u00a0I have other sheep that are not of this fold.\u00a0I must bring them also, and\u00a0they will listen to my voice. So there will be\u00a0one flock,\u00a0one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me,\u00a0because\u00a0I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but\u00a0I lay it down\u00a0of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and\u00a0I have authority to take it up again.\u00a0This charge I have received from my Father.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was again a division among the Jews because of these words. Many of them said,\u00a0\u201cHe has a demon, and\u00a0is insane; why listen to him?&#8221; Others said, \u201cThese are not the words of one who is oppressed by a demon.\u00a0Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I and the Father Are One<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple,\u00a0in the colonnade of Solomon. So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, \u201cHow long will you keep us in suspense? If you are\u00a0the Christ,\u00a0tell us plainly.&#8221; Jesus answered them,\u00a0\u201cI told you, and you do not believe.\u00a0The works that I do\u00a0in my Father\u2019s name bear witness about me, but\u00a0you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and\u00a0they will never perish, and\u00a0no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father,\u00a0who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of\u00a0the Father\u2019s hand. I and the Father are one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Jews picked up stones again to stone him.\u00a0Jesus answered them,\u00a0\u201cI have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you going to stone me?&#8221; The Jews answered him, \u201cIt is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but\u00a0for blasphemy, because you, being a man,\u00a0make yourself God.&#8221; Jesus answered them,\u00a0\u201cIs it not written in\u00a0your Law,\u00a0\u2018I said, you are gods\u2019? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came\u2014and Scripture cannot be\u00a0broken\u2014do you say of him whom\u00a0the Father consecrated and\u00a0sent into the world, \u2018You are blaspheming,\u2019 because\u00a0I said, \u2018I am the Son of God\u2019?\u00a0If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; but if I do them,\u00a0even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that\u00a0the Father is in me and I am in the Father.\u201d\u00a0Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He went away again across the Jordan to the place\u00a0where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained.\u00a0And many came to him. In this passage, Jesus is revealed as the perfect Shepherd, whose tender care stands in stark contrast to the shepherds of John\u2019s day\u2014and even our own. Jesus proved His love through His willingness to sacrifice everything for our well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Shepherd knows us by name, and we must learn to recognize His voice amidst the noise of the world. Refusing to follow other voices, we place our trust in Him to lead us into abundance and safety. He fears no enemy and will never abandon us, always prioritizing our welfare above His own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus reserved His harshest criticism for unfaithful shepherds\u2014leaders driven by selfish ambition, personal weakness, or neglect of those in their flock. In contrast, the Good Shepherd\u2019s unwavering devotion and sacrificial love guide us to follow Him alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John\u2019s picture of the \u201cdoor of the sheepfold\u201d unsettles many who believe there is more than one door, but Jesus declares Himself to be the one true door. His fold is secure, and any intruder seeking to harm His sheep must first face the Shepherd who laid down His life for our eternal freedom and protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Does Jesus know your name? Do you follow when He calls?
