Therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cMy manner of life from my youth, spent from the beginning among&nbsp;my own nation and in Jerusalem, is known by all the Jews.&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that&nbsp;according to the strictest&nbsp;party of our&nbsp;religion I have lived as&nbsp;a Pharisee.&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in&nbsp;the promise made by God to our fathers,&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>to which&nbsp;our twelve tribes hope to&nbsp;attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. And for this hope&nbsp;I am accused by Jews, O king!&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Why is it thought&nbsp;incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cI myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of&nbsp;Jesus of Nazareth.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>And I did so in Jerusalem. I not only locked up many of the saints in prison after receiving authority&nbsp;from the chief priests, but&nbsp;when they were put to death I cast my vote against them.&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;I punished them often in all the synagogues and tried to make them&nbsp;blaspheme, and&nbsp;in raging fury against them I&nbsp;persecuted them even to foreign cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Paul Tells of His Conversion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cIn this connection\u00a0I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests.\u00a0<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>At midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, that shone around me and those who journeyed with me.\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me\u00a0in the Hebrew language,\u00a0\u2018Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.\u2019\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>And I said, \u2018Who are you, Lord?\u2019 And the Lord said,\u00a0\u2018I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>But rise and\u00a0stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose,\u00a0to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you,\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles\u2014to whom I\u00a0am sending you\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from\u00a0the power of Satan to God, that they may receive\u00a0forgiveness of sins and\u00a0a place among those who are sanctified\u00a0by faith in me.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cTherefore, O King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to&nbsp;the heavenly vision,&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>but declared first&nbsp;to those in Damascus,&nbsp;then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also&nbsp;to the Gentiles, that they should&nbsp;repent and&nbsp;turn to God, performing deeds&nbsp;in keeping with their repentance.&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>For this reason&nbsp;the Jews seized me in the temple and tried to kill me.&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so&nbsp;I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what&nbsp;the prophets and Moses said would come to pass:&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>that the Christ&nbsp;must suffer and that,&nbsp;by being the first&nbsp;to rise from the dead,&nbsp;he would proclaim&nbsp;light both to our people and to the Gentiles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>And as he was saying these things in his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, \u201cPaul,\u00a0you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.\u201d\u00a0<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>But Paul said, \u201cI am not out of my mind,\u00a0most excellent Festus, but I am speaking\u00a0true and\u00a0rational words.\u00a0<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>For\u00a0the king knows about these things, and to him I speak boldly. For I am persuaded that none of these things has escaped his notice, for this has not been done in a corner.\u00a0<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.\u201d\u00a0<sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>And Agrippa said to Paul, \u201cIn a short time would you persuade me to be\u00a0a Christian?\u201d\u00a0<sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>And Paul said, \u201cWhether short or long, I would to God that not only you but also all who hear me this day\u00a0might become such as I am\u2014except for\u00a0these chains.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>Then the king rose, and&nbsp;the governor and Bernice and those who were sitting with them.&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>And when they had withdrawn, they said to one another,&nbsp;\u201cThis man is doing nothing to deserve death or imprisonment.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>And Agrippa said to Festus,&nbsp;\u201cThis man could have been set&nbsp;free if he had not appealed&nbsp;to Caesar.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f2f2;font-size:12px\">Scripture quotations are from the ESV\u00ae Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version\u00ae), copyright \u00a9 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. In Acts 26, he fearlessly proclaims the gospel, holding nothing back. What stands out the most to me is the simplicity with which Paul delivers his testimony, plainly sharing what his life was like before he trusted in Jesus and experienced his conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Galatians 2:20 reveals Paul\u2019s mindset when he states, \u201cI have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.\u201d This mindset is evident in his actions in Acts 26. Despite facing criticism, Paul remains steadfast in his commitment to follow Jesus, showing no regard for personal safety or others\u2019 opinions. The point of Paul\u2019s address is not to save himself but to lead those listening to Jesus. While focused on sharing the truth, he is respectful, waiting for permission to speak, even while unjustly detained.
