Remember how he told you,&nbsp;while he was still in Galilee,&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>that the Son of Man&nbsp;must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and&nbsp;be crucified and on&nbsp;the third day rise.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;they remembered his words,&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>and returning from the tomb they&nbsp;told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>Now it was&nbsp;Mary Magdalene and&nbsp;Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles,&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and&nbsp;they did not believe them.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw&nbsp;the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">On the Road to Emmaus<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>That very day\u00a0two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles\u00a0from Jerusalem,\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>And he said to them,\u00a0\u201cWhat is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?\u201d\u00a0And they stood still, looking sad.\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, \u201cAre you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?\u201d\u00a0<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>And he said to them,\u00a0\u201cWhat things?\u201d\u00a0And they said to him, \u201cConcerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was\u00a0a prophet\u00a0mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,\u00a0<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>and\u00a0how our chief priests and\u00a0rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.\u00a0<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>But we had hoped that he was\u00a0the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now\u00a0the third day since these things happened.\u00a0<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>Moreover, some women of our company amazed us.\u00a0They were at the tomb early in the morning,\u00a0<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>and\u00a0when they did not find his body, they came back saying that\u00a0they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.\u00a0<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.\u201d\u00a0<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>And he said to them,\u00a0\u201cO foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!\u00a0<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>Was it not necessary that\u00a0the Christ should suffer these things and enter into\u00a0his glory?\u201d\u00a0<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>And\u00a0beginning with\u00a0Moses and\u00a0all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>So they drew near to the village to which they were going.&nbsp;He acted as if he were going farther,&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>but they urged him strongly, saying, \u201cStay with us, for it is toward evening and&nbsp;the day is now far spent.\u201d So he went in to stay with them.&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>When he was at table with them, he took the bread and&nbsp;blessed and broke it and gave it to them.&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And&nbsp;he vanished from their sight.&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>They said to each other,&nbsp;\u201cDid not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he&nbsp;opened to us the Scriptures?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they&nbsp;found the eleven and&nbsp;those who were with them gathered together,&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>saying, \u201cThe Lord has risen indeed, and&nbsp;has appeared to Simon!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>Then they told what had happened on the road, and&nbsp;how he was known to them in&nbsp;the breaking of the bread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Appears to His Disciples<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>As they were talking about these things,\u00a0Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them,\u00a0\u201cPeace to you!\u201d\u00a0<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>But they were\u00a0startled and\u00a0frightened and\u00a0thought they saw a spirit.\u00a0<sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>And he said to them,\u00a0\u201cWhy are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?\u00a0<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.\u00a0Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.\u201d\u00a0<sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>And when he had said this,\u00a0he showed them his hands and his feet.\u00a0<sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>And while they still disbelieved\u00a0for joy and were marveling,\u00a0he said to them,\u00a0\u201cHave you anything here to eat?\u201d\u00a0<sup>42\u00a0<\/sup>They gave him a piece of broiled fish,\u00a0<sup>43\u00a0<\/sup>and he took it and ate before them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>44\u00a0<\/sup>Then he said to them,\u00a0\u201cThese are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you,\u00a0that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.\u201d\u00a0<sup>45\u00a0<\/sup>Then\u00a0he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,\u00a0<sup>46\u00a0<\/sup>and said to them,\u00a0\u201cThus\u00a0it is written,\u00a0that the Christ should suffer and on the third day\u00a0rise from the dead,\u00a0<sup>47\u00a0<\/sup>and that\u00a0repentance for\u00a0the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed\u00a0in his name\u00a0to all nations,\u00a0beginning from Jerusalem.\u00a0<sup>48\u00a0<\/sup>You are witnesses of these things.\u00a0<sup>49\u00a0<\/sup>And behold, I am sending\u00a0the promise of my Father upon you.
