And why did he murder him?\u00a0Because his own deeds were evil and his brother&#8217;s righteous.\u00a0<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>Do not be surprised, brothers,\u00a0that the world hates you.\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>We know that\u00a0we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that\u00a0no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>By this we know love, that&nbsp;he laid down his life for us, and&nbsp;we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;if anyone has the world&#8217;s goods and sees his brother in need, yet&nbsp;closes his heart against him,&nbsp;how does God&#8217;s love abide in him?&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>Little children, let us not&nbsp;love in word or talk but in deed and&nbsp;in truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him;\u00a0<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.\u00a0<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>Beloved,\u00a0if our heart does not condemn us,\u00a0we have confidence before God;\u00a0<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>and\u00a0whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and\u00a0do what pleases him.\u00a0<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>And this is his commandment,\u00a0that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and\u00a0love one another,\u00a0just as he has commanded us.\u00a0<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God,\u00a0and God\u00a0in him. And\u00a0by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test the Spirits<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>Beloved,\u00a0do not believe every spirit, but\u00a0test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for\u00a0many\u00a0false prophets\u00a0have gone out into the world.\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>By this you know the Spirit of God:\u00a0every spirit that confesses that\u00a0Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>and every spirit\u00a0that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and\u00a0now is in the world already.\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for\u00a0he who is in you is greater than\u00a0he who is in the world.\u00a0<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and\u00a0the world listens to them.\u00a0<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>We are from God.\u00a0Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know\u00a0the Spirit of truth and\u00a0the spirit of error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">God Is Love<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>Beloved,&nbsp;let us love one another, for love is from God, and&nbsp;whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Anyone who does not love does not know God, because&nbsp;God is love.&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that&nbsp;God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>In this is love,&nbsp;not that we have loved God&nbsp;but that he loved us and sent his Son to be&nbsp;the propitiation for our sins.&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and&nbsp;his love is perfected in us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>And\u00a0we have seen and testify that\u00a0the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of\u00a0the world.\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>So\u00a0we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.\u00a0God is love, and\u00a0whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>By this\u00a0is love perfected with us, so that\u00a0we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because\u00a0as he is so also are we in this world.\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>There is no fear in love, but\u00a0perfect love casts out fear.
