class=\"wp-block-heading\">Greeting<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1&nbsp;<\/strong>Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To those who are elect exiles of&nbsp;the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>according to&nbsp;the foreknowledge of God the Father,&nbsp;in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and&nbsp;for sprinkling with his blood:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>May&nbsp;grace and&nbsp;peace be multiplied to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Born Again to a Living Hope<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!&nbsp;According to his great mercy,&nbsp;he has caused us to be born again to a living hope&nbsp;through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>to&nbsp;an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and&nbsp;unfading,&nbsp;kept in heaven for you,&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>who by God&#8217;s power are being guarded&nbsp;through faith for a salvation&nbsp;ready to be revealed in the last time.&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by&nbsp;various trials,&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>so that&nbsp;the tested genuineness of your faith\u2014more precious than gold that perishes&nbsp;though it is tested by&nbsp;fire\u2014may be found to result in&nbsp;praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Though you have not seen him, you love him.&nbsp;Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>obtaining&nbsp;the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>Concerning this salvation,\u00a0the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully,\u00a0<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>inquiring\u00a0what person or time\u00a0the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating\u00a0when he predicted\u00a0the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.\u00a0<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>It was revealed to them that\u00a0they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you\u00a0by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven,\u00a0things into which angels long to look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Called to Be Holy<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore,\u00a0preparing your minds for action,\u00a0and\u00a0being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>As obedient children,\u00a0do not be conformed to the passions\u00a0of your former ignorance,\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>but\u00a0as he who called you is holy, you also be holy\u00a0in all your conduct,\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>since it is written,\u00a0\u201cYou shall be holy, for I am holy.\u201d\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>And if you\u00a0call on him as Father who\u00a0judges\u00a0impartially according to each one&#8217;s deeds, conduct yourselves\u00a0with fear throughout the time of your exile,\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>knowing that you\u00a0were ransomed from\u00a0the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold,\u00a0<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>but\u00a0with the precious blood of Christ, like that of\u00a0a lamb\u00a0without blemish or spot.\u00a0<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but\u00a0was made manifest\u00a0in the last times for the sake of you\u00a0<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>who through him are believers in God,\u00a0who raised him from the dead and\u00a0gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for&nbsp;a sincere brotherly love,&nbsp;love one another earnestly from a pure heart,&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>since you have been born again,&nbsp;not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through&nbsp;the living and abiding word of God;&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>for<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll flesh is like grass<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and all its glory like the flower of grass.<br>The grass withers,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the flower falls,<br><sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>but the word of the Lord remains forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And this word\u00a0is the good news that was preached to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Living Stone and a Holy People<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual\u00a0milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation\u2014\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>if indeed you have\u00a0tasted that the Lord is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>As you come to him, a living stone&nbsp;rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious,&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>you yourselves like living stones are being built up as&nbsp;a spiritual house, to be&nbsp;a holy priesthood,&nbsp;to offer spiritual sacrifices&nbsp;acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>For it stands in Scripture:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBehold, I am laying in Zion a stone,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;a cornerstone chosen and precious,<br>and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>So the honor is for you who&nbsp;believe, but for those who&nbsp;do not believe,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe stone that the builders rejected<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0has become the cornerstone,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA stone of stumbling,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and a rock of offense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They stumble because they disobey the word,&nbsp;as they were destined to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>But you are&nbsp;a chosen race,&nbsp;a royal&nbsp;priesthood,&nbsp;a holy nation,&nbsp;a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you&nbsp;out of darkness into&nbsp;his marvelous light.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>Once you were not a people, but now you are God&#8217;s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>Beloved, I urge you&nbsp;as sojourners and exiles&nbsp;to abstain from the passions of the flesh,&nbsp;which wage war against your soul.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers,&nbsp;they may see your good deeds and glorify God on&nbsp;the day of
