{"id":161,"date":"2019-12-17T00:30:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T06:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=161"},"modified":"2019-12-12T15:32:56","modified_gmt":"2019-12-12T21:32:56","slug":"luke-day-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/luke-day-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Luke Chapter 17"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Day 17: December 17, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus is continuing to teach his disciples as He makes His way to Jerusalem. In this chapter He begins by sharing the obligations His disciples had toward other people (17:1-4) and God (17:6-10). Followers of Jesus should not cause others to sin and in addition should counteract sin by forgiving others. Forgiveness should permeate a Christian\u2019s life, not just considered every now and then as we feel it suits us best. We also have responsibilities toward God to have faith (17:5-6) and humbly serve (17:7-10). Luke records an interaction with the Pharisees who ask Jesus when the kingdom of God would come.\u00a0 Jesus responds by saying they would not be able predict the coming of the kingdom by their observations. In a real way the kingdom was in their midst \u2013 in the person of Jesus. Jesus reminds his disciples that just like the people of Noah\u2019s day were not prepared for the flood and were destroyed, so would the people be unprepared when the kingdom (judgment of God) comes. The warning for us is the same as then \u2013 be ready! \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-f549aa4 ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-f549aa4 .ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-f549aa4-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-f549aa4-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Luke 17<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Temptations to Sin<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>And he said to his disciples,&nbsp;\u201cTemptations to sin&nbsp;are&nbsp;sure to come, but&nbsp;woe to the one through whom they come!&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>Pay attention to yourselves!&nbsp;If your brother sins,&nbsp;rebuke him, and if he repents,&nbsp;forgive him,&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>and if he sins against you&nbsp;seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, \u2018I repent,\u2019 you must forgive him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Increase Our Faith<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>The apostles said to the Lord,&nbsp;\u201cIncrease our faith!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>And the Lord said,&nbsp;\u201cIf you had faith like&nbsp;a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this&nbsp;mulberry tree, \u2018Be uprooted and planted in the sea,\u2019 and it would obey you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unworthy Servants<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cWill any one of you who has a servant&nbsp;plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, \u2018Come at once and recline at table\u2019?&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Will he not rather say to him, \u2018Prepare supper for me, and&nbsp;dress properly,&nbsp;and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink\u2019?&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded?&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, \u2018We are&nbsp;unworthy servants;&nbsp;we have only done what was our duty.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>On the way to Jerusalem&nbsp;he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers,&nbsp;who stood at a distance&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>and lifted up their voices, saying, \u201cJesus, Master, have mercy on us.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>When he saw them he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cGo and&nbsp;show yourselves to the priests.\u201d&nbsp;And as they went they were cleansed.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back,&nbsp;praising God with a loud voice;&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>and&nbsp;he fell on his face at Jesus&#8217; feet, giving him thanks. Now he was&nbsp;a Samaritan.&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Jesus answered,&nbsp;\u201cWere not&nbsp;ten cleansed? Where are the nine?&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>Was no one found to return and&nbsp;give praise to God except this&nbsp;foreigner?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to him,&nbsp;\u201cRise and go your way;&nbsp;your faith has&nbsp;made you well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Coming of the Kingdom<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>Being asked by the Pharisees&nbsp;when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them,&nbsp;\u201cThe kingdom of God&nbsp;is not coming in ways that can be observed,&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>nor&nbsp;will they say, \u2018Look, here it is!\u2019 or \u2018There!\u2019 for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to the disciples,&nbsp;\u201cThe days are coming when you will desire&nbsp;to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>And they will say to you, \u2018Look, there!\u2019 or \u2018Look, here!\u2019 Do not go out or follow them.&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be&nbsp;in his day.&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>But first&nbsp;he must suffer many things and&nbsp;be rejected by this generation.&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>Just as it was in the days of&nbsp;Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man.&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>Likewise, just as it was in the days of&nbsp;Lot\u2014they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building,&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all\u2014&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>so will it be&nbsp;on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>On that day,&nbsp;let the one who is on&nbsp;the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back.&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>Remember Lot&#8217;s wife.&nbsp;<sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will&nbsp;keep it.&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left.&nbsp;<sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>There will be two women&nbsp;grinding together. Do you have difficulty accepting that God can forgive you? Forgive others?
