{"id":1585,"date":"2021-03-25T00:15:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T05:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=1585"},"modified":"2021-03-18T11:32:13","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T16:32:13","slug":"3-25-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/3-25-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Essential 100-Day 75"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-01d158d ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\"><style>.ugb-01d158d-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-01d158d-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}@media screen and (min-width:768px){.ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-01d158d-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-01d158d-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acts 10-11:1-18<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter and Cornelius<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of\u00a0what was known as the Italian Cohort,\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>a devout man\u00a0who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>About the ninth hour of the day\u00a0he saw clearly in a vision\u00a0an angel of God come in and say to him, \u201cCornelius.\u201d\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>And he stared at him in terror and said, \u201cWhat is it, Lord?\u201d And he said to him, \u201cYour prayers and your alms\u00a0have ascended\u00a0as a memorial before God.\u00a0<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>And now send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter.\u00a0<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>He is lodging\u00a0with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.\u201d\u00a0<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those who attended him,\u00a0<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>and having related everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter&#8217;s Vision<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city,\u00a0Peter went up\u00a0on the housetop about\u00a0the sixth hour\u00a0to pray.\u00a0<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>And he became hungry and wanted something to eat, but while they were preparing it, he fell into\u00a0a trance\u00a0<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>and saw\u00a0the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth.\u00a0<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air.\u00a0<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>And there came a voice to him:\u00a0\u201cRise, Peter; kill and eat.\u201d\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>But Peter said, \u201cBy no means, Lord;\u00a0for I have never eaten anything that is\u00a0common or\u00a0unclean.\u201d\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>And the voice came to him again a second time,\u00a0\u201cWhat God has made clean, do not call common.\u201d\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as to what\u00a0the vision that he had seen might mean, behold,\u00a0the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon&#8217;s house, stood at the gate\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>and called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there.\u00a0<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>And while Peter was pondering\u00a0the vision,\u00a0the Spirit said to him, \u201cBehold, three men are looking for you.\u00a0<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>Rise and go down and\u00a0accompany them without hesitation,\u00a0for I have sent them.\u201d\u00a0<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>And Peter went down to the men and said, \u201cI am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?\u201d\u00a0<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>And they said, \u201cCornelius, a centurion, an upright and\u00a0God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by\u00a0a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and\u00a0to hear what you have to say.\u201d\u00a0<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>So he invited them in to be his guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next day he rose and went away with them, and&nbsp;some of&nbsp;the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>And on the following day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and&nbsp;fell down at his feet and&nbsp;worshiped him.&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>But Peter lifted him up, saying,&nbsp;\u201cStand up; I too am a man.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>And as he talked with him, he went in and found many persons gathered.&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them, \u201cYou yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew&nbsp;to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but&nbsp;God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you sent for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>And Cornelius said,\u00a0\u201cFour days ago, about this hour, I was praying in my house at\u00a0the ninth hour,\u00a0and behold,\u00a0a man stood before me in bright clothing\u00a0<sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>and said, \u2018Cornelius,\u00a0your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.\u00a0<sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.\u2019\u00a0<sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gentiles Hear the Good News<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>So Peter opened his mouth and said: \u201cTruly I understand that&nbsp;God&nbsp;shows no partiality,&nbsp;<sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>but&nbsp;in every nation anyone who fears him and&nbsp;does what is right is acceptable to him.&nbsp;<sup>36&nbsp;<\/sup>As for&nbsp;the word that he sent to Israel,&nbsp;preaching good news of&nbsp;peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),&nbsp;<sup>37&nbsp;<\/sup>you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea,&nbsp;beginning&nbsp;from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed:&nbsp;<sup>38&nbsp;<\/sup>how&nbsp;God anointed Jesus of Nazareth&nbsp;with the Holy Spirit and with&nbsp;power. He went about doing good and healing all&nbsp;who were oppressed by the devil,&nbsp;for God was with him.&nbsp;<sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.&nbsp;They put him to death by hanging him on a tree,&nbsp;<sup>40&nbsp;<\/sup>but&nbsp;God raised him on&nbsp;the third day and made him to&nbsp;appear,&nbsp;<sup>41&nbsp;<\/sup>not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as&nbsp;witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.&nbsp;<sup>42&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify&nbsp;that he is the one appointed by God to be judge&nbsp;of the living and the dead.&nbsp;<sup>43&nbsp;<\/sup>To him&nbsp;all the prophets bear witness that&nbsp;everyone who believes in him receives&nbsp;forgiveness of sins&nbsp;through his name.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>44\u00a0<\/sup>While Peter was still saying these things,\u00a0the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.\u00a0<sup>45\u00a0<\/sup>And the believers from among\u00a0the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because\u00a0the gift of the Holy Spirit\u00a0was poured out even on the Gentiles.\u00a0<sup>46\u00a0<\/sup>For they were hearing them\u00a0speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,\u00a0<sup>47\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cCan anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit\u00a0just as we have?\u201d\u00a0<sup>48\u00a0<\/sup>And he\u00a0commanded them\u00a0to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 11<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter Reports to the Church<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>Now the apostles and\u00a0the brothers\u00a0who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>So when Peter went up to Jerusalem,\u00a0the circumcision party\u00a0criticized him, saying,\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou went to uncircumcised men and\u00a0ate with them.\u201d\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>But Peter began and explained it to them in order:\u00a0<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cI was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me.\u00a0<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air.\u00a0<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>And I heard a voice saying to me,\u00a0\u2018Rise, Peter; kill and eat.\u2019\u00a0<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>But I said, \u2018By no means, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.\u2019\u00a0<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>But the voice answered a second time from heaven,\u00a0\u2018What God has made clean, do not call common.\u2019\u00a0<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>This happened three times, and all was drawn up again into heaven.\u00a0<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>And behold, at that very moment three men arrived at the house in which we were, sent to me from Caesarea.\u00a0<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>And the Spirit told me to go with them,\u00a0making no distinction.\u00a0These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered the man&#8217;s house.\u00a0<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>And he told us how he had seen the angel stand in his house and say, \u2018Send to Joppa and bring Simon who is called Peter;\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>he will declare to you a message by which\u00a0you will be saved, you and all your household.\u2019\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>As I began to speak,\u00a0the Holy Spirit fell on them\u00a0just as on us at the beginning.\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said,\u00a0\u2018John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.\u2019\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>If then\u00a0God gave\u00a0the same gift to them as he gave to us\u00a0when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ,\u00a0who was I\u00a0that I could stand in God&#8217;s way?\u201d\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>When they heard these things they fell silent.
