It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people&#8217;s feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>In the same way, let your light shine before others, so\u00a0that\u00a0they may see your good works and\u00a0give glory to your Father who is in heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Christ Came to Fulfill the Law<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cDo not think that I have come to abolish&nbsp;the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but&nbsp;to fulfill them.&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>For truly, I say to you,&nbsp;until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>Therefore whoever relaxes&nbsp;one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least&nbsp;in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great&nbsp;in the kingdom of heaven.&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds&nbsp;that of the scribes and Pharisees, you&nbsp;will never enter the kingdom of heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Anger<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou have heard that it was said to those of old,\u00a0\u2018You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable\u00a0to judgment.\u2019\u00a0<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>But I say to you that\u00a0everyone who is angry with his brother\u00a0will be liable\u00a0to judgment; whoever insults\u00a0his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, \u2018You fool!\u2019 will be liable to\u00a0the hell\u00a0of fire.\u00a0<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>So if\u00a0you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,\u00a0<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.\u00a0<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison.\u00a0<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>Truly, I say to you,\u00a0you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lust<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cYou have heard that it was said,&nbsp;\u2018You shall not commit adultery.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>But I say to you that&nbsp;everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>If your right eye&nbsp;causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into&nbsp;hell.&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>And if your right hand&nbsp;causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into&nbsp;hell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Divorce<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cIt was also said,&nbsp;\u2018Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and&nbsp;whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Oaths<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAgain\u00a0you have heard that it was said to those of old,\u00a0\u2018You shall not swear falsely, but\u00a0shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.\u2019\u00a0<sup>34\u00a0<\/sup>But I say to you,\u00a0Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for\u00a0it is the throne of God,\u00a0<sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is\u00a0the city of the great King.\u00a0<sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.\u00a0<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>Let what you say be simply \u2018Yes\u2019 or \u2018No\u2019;\u00a0anything more than this comes from evil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Retaliation<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou have heard that it was said,\u00a0\u2018An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.\u2019\u00a0<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>But I say to you,\u00a0Do not resist the one who is evil. But\u00a0if anyone\u00a0slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.\u00a0<sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>And\u00a0if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,\u00a0let him have your cloak as well.\u00a0<sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>And if anyone\u00a0forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.\u00a0<sup>42\u00a0<\/sup>Give to the one who begs from you, and\u00a0do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Love Your Enemies<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>43\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou have heard that it was said,\u00a0\u2018You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.\u2019\u00a0<sup>44\u00a0<\/sup>But I say to you,\u00a0Love your enemies and\u00a0pray for those who persecute you,\u00a0<sup>45\u00a0<\/sup>so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and\u00a0sends rain on the just and on the unjust.\u00a0<sup>46\u00a0<\/sup>For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?\u00a0<sup>47\u00a0<\/sup>And if you greet only your brothers,\u00a0what more are you doing than others? Do not even\u00a0the Gentiles do the same?\u00a0<sup>48\u00a0<\/sup>You therefore must be\u00a0perfect,\u00a0as your heavenly Father is perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 6<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Giving to the Needy<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cBeware of\u00a0practicing your righteousness before other people in order\u00a0to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cThus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may&nbsp;be praised by others.
