{"id":154,"date":"2019-12-10T00:30:02","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T06:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=154"},"modified":"2019-12-04T15:03:11","modified_gmt":"2019-12-04T21:03:11","slug":"luke-day-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/luke-day-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Luke Chapter 10"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Day 10: December 10, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Jesus\u2019 determination to set out for Jerusalem (9:51), opposition to His ministry increased. We see opposition from Samaritans and the cities visited by the 72 (10:13-15). Before the 72 are sent out, Jesus reminds them of the authority in which they operate, authority given to Jesus by the Father. Another form of opposition came in the form of a lawyer questioning Jesus about inheriting eternal life. Jesus\u2019 response, the Parable of the Good Samaritan, was a fitting rebuke to the self-righteous actions of the religious elite in Jewish society. A Samaritan, the half-breed race looked at with disdain by the Israelites, was the hero of the story. Radical Jesus telling radical stories in order to change people in radical ways \u2013 go and do likewise (10:37).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-52d8f73 ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-52d8f73 .ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-52d8f73-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-52d8f73-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Luke 10<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>After this the Lord appointed&nbsp;seventy-two&nbsp;others and&nbsp;sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cThe harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.&nbsp;Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>Go your way;&nbsp;behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>Carry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and&nbsp;greet no one on the road.&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>Whatever house you enter, first say,&nbsp;\u2018Peace be to this house!\u2019&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not,&nbsp;it will return to you.&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for&nbsp;the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>Heal the sick in it and say to them,&nbsp;\u2018The kingdom of God has come near to you.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>\u2018Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that&nbsp;the kingdom of God has come near.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>I tell you,&nbsp;it will be more bearable on&nbsp;that day for Sodom than for that town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Woe to Unrepentant Cities<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cWoe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in&nbsp;Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>But it will be more bearable in the judgment for&nbsp;Tyre and Sidon than for you.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>And you, Capernaum,&nbsp;will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to&nbsp;Hades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cThe one who hears you hears me, and&nbsp;the one who rejects you rejects me, and&nbsp;the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Return of the Seventy-Two<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, \u201cLord,&nbsp;even the demons are subject to us in your name!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to them,&nbsp;\u201cI saw Satan&nbsp;fall like lightning from heaven.&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>Behold, I have given you authority&nbsp;to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of&nbsp;the enemy, and&nbsp;nothing shall hurt you.&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that&nbsp;your names are written in heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Rejoices in the Father&#8217;s Will<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>In that same hour&nbsp;he rejoiced&nbsp;in the Holy Spirit and said,&nbsp;\u201cI thank you, Father,&nbsp;Lord of heaven and earth, that&nbsp;you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and&nbsp;revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for&nbsp;such was your gracious will.&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is&nbsp;except the Father, or who the Father is&nbsp;except the Son and anyone&nbsp;to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>Then turning to the disciples he said privately,&nbsp;\u201cBlessed are the eyes that see what you see!&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>For I tell you&nbsp;that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Parable of the Good Samaritan<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>And behold, a&nbsp;lawyer stood up to&nbsp;put him to the test, saying, \u201cTeacher, what shall I do to&nbsp;inherit eternal life?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>He said to him,&nbsp;\u201cWhat is written in the Law? How do you read it?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>And he answered,&nbsp;\u201cYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and&nbsp;your neighbor as yourself.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to him,&nbsp;\u201cYou have answered correctly;&nbsp;do this, and you will live.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>But he,&nbsp;desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, \u201cAnd who is my neighbor?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>Jesus replied,&nbsp;\u201cA man&nbsp;was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead.&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>Now by chance a&nbsp;priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>So likewise&nbsp;a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.&nbsp;<sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>But a&nbsp;Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>He went to him and&nbsp;bound up his wounds, pouring on&nbsp;oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him.&nbsp;<sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>And the next day he took out two&nbsp;denarii&nbsp;and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, \u2018Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>36&nbsp;<\/sup>Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>37&nbsp;<\/sup>He said, \u201cThe one who showed him mercy.\u201d And Jesus said to him,&nbsp;\u201cYou go, and do likewise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Martha and Mary<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>38&nbsp;<\/sup>Now as they went on their way, Jesus&nbsp;entered a village. And a woman named&nbsp;Martha&nbsp;welcomed him into her house.&nbsp;<sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>And she had a sister called&nbsp;Mary, who&nbsp;sat at the Lord&#8217;s feet and listened to his teaching.&nbsp;<sup>40&nbsp;<\/sup>But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, \u201cLord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?
