Christ<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>In those days\u00a0a decree went out from\u00a0Caesar Augustus that all the world should be\u00a0registered.\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>This was the first\u00a0registration when\u00a0Quirinius\u00a0was governor of Syria.\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>And all went to be registered, each to his own town.\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>And Joseph also went up\u00a0from Galilee, from the town of\u00a0Nazareth, to Judea, to\u00a0the city of David, which is called\u00a0Bethlehem,\u00a0because he was of the house and lineage of David,\u00a0<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>to be registered with Mary, his betrothed,\u00a0who was with child.\u00a0<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>And\u00a0while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.\u00a0<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>And she gave birth to her firstborn son and\u00a0wrapped him in swaddling cloths and\u00a0laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in\u00a0the inn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Shepherds and the Angels<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>And an angel of the Lord&nbsp;appeared to them, and&nbsp;the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>And the angel said to them, \u201cFear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all&nbsp;the people.&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>For&nbsp;unto you is born this day in&nbsp;the city of David&nbsp;a Savior, who is&nbsp;Christ&nbsp;the Lord.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby&nbsp;wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>And suddenly there was with the angel&nbsp;a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cGlory to God\u00a0in the highest,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and on earth\u00a0peace\u00a0among those with whom he is pleased!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, \u201cLet us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby&nbsp;lying in a manger.&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them.&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>And the shepherds returned,&nbsp;glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised,&nbsp;he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Jesus Presented at the Temple<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;when the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem&nbsp;to present him to the Lord&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>(as it is written in&nbsp;the Law of the Lord,&nbsp;\u201cEvery male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord\u201d)&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in&nbsp;the Law of the Lord,&nbsp;\u201ca pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was&nbsp;righteous and&nbsp;devout,&nbsp;waiting for&nbsp;the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not&nbsp;see death before he had seen&nbsp;the Lord&#8217;s Christ.&nbsp;<sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when&nbsp;the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law,&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>he took him up in his arms and&nbsp;blessed God and said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cLord, now you are letting your servant\u00a0depart\u00a0in peace,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0according to your word;<br><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>for\u00a0my eyes have seen your\u00a0salvation<br><sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,<br><sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>a light for revelation to the Gentiles,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0for glory to\u00a0your people Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him.&nbsp;<sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, \u201cBehold, this child is appointed&nbsp;for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign&nbsp;that is opposed&nbsp;<sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>(and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>And there was\u00a0a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin,\u00a0<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.\u00a0She did not depart from the temple,\u00a0worshiping with\u00a0fasting and prayer night and day.\u00a0<sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were\u00a0waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Return to Nazareth<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>And when they had performed everything according to&nbsp;the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of&nbsp;Nazareth.&nbsp;<sup>40&nbsp;<\/sup>And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom.
