If then I am\u00a0a father, where is my honor? And if I am\u00a0a master, where is my fear? says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name.\u00a0But you say, \u2018How have we despised your name?\u2019\u00a0<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>By offering polluted food upon my altar.\u00a0But you say, \u2018How have we polluted you?\u2019 By saying that\u00a0the\u00a0Lord&#8217;s table may be despised.\u00a0<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>When you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that not evil? And when you offer those that are lame or sick, is that not evil? Present that to your governor; will he accept you or show you favor? says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>And now\u00a0entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With such a gift from your hand,\u00a0will he show favor to any of you? says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts,\u00a0and I will not accept an offering from your hand.\u00a0<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name\u00a0will be\u00a0great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name\u00a0will be great among the nations, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>But you profane it when you say that\u00a0the Lord&#8217;s table is polluted, and its fruit, that is, its food may be despised.\u00a0<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>But you say,\u00a0\u2018What a weariness this is,\u2019 and you snort at it, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0You bring what has been taken by violence or is lame or sick, and this you bring as your offering! Shall I accept that from your hand? says the\u00a0Lord.\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>Cursed be the cheat who has\u00a0a male in his flock, and\u00a0vows it, and yet sacrifices to the Lord what is blemished. For\u00a0I am a great King, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts, and my name\u00a0will be feared among the nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;Rebukes the Priests<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cAnd now,\u00a0O priests,\u00a0this command is for you.\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>If you will not listen, if you will not take it to heart to give honor to my name, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts, then I will send\u00a0the curse upon you and I will curse\u00a0your blessings. Indeed, I have already cursed them, because you do not lay it to heart.\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>Behold,\u00a0I will rebuke your offspring,\u00a0and\u00a0spread dung on your faces, the\u00a0dung of your offerings, and you shall be taken away with it.\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>So shall you know that I have sent\u00a0this command to you, that\u00a0my covenant with Levi may stand, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>My covenant with him was one of life and\u00a0peace, and I gave them to him.\u00a0It was a covenant of fear, and he feared me. He stood in awe of my name.\u00a0<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>True instruction\u00a0was in his mouth, and no wrong was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and he\u00a0turned many from iniquity.\u00a0<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>For\u00a0the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people<sup>[<\/sup>should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>But you have turned aside from the way.\u00a0You have caused many to stumble by your instruction. You have corrupted\u00a0the covenant of Levi, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts,\u00a0<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>and so\u00a0I make you despised and abased before all the people, inasmuch as you do not keep my ways but\u00a0show partiality in your instruction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Judah Profaned the Covenant<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>Have we not all\u00a0one Father? Has not\u00a0one God created us? Why then are we\u00a0faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?\u00a0<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>Judah has been\u00a0faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For\u00a0Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the\u00a0Lord, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.\u00a0<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>May the\u00a0Lord\u00a0cut off from the tents of Jacob any descendant\u00a0of the man who does this, who\u00a0brings an offering to the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>And this second thing you do.\u00a0You cover the\u00a0Lord&#8217;s altar with tears, with weeping and groaning because he no longer regards the offering or accepts it with favor from your hand.\u00a0<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>But you say, \u201cWhy does he not?\u201d Because the\u00a0Lord\u00a0was witness between you and the wife of your youth,\u00a0to whom\u00a0you have been faithless, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union?\u00a0And what was the one God\u00a0seeking?\u00a0Godly offspring. So guard yourselves\u00a0in your spirit, and let none of you be\u00a0faithless to the wife of your youth.\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cFor\u00a0the man who does not love his wife but divorces her,\u00a0says the\u00a0Lord, the God of Israel, covers\u00a0his garment with violence, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and\u00a0do not be faithless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Messenger of the&nbsp;Lord<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>You have wearied the\u00a0Lord\u00a0with your words.\u00a0But you say, \u201cHow have we wearied him?\u201d\u00a0By saying, \u201cEveryone who does evil is good in the sight of the\u00a0Lord, and he delights in them.\u201d Or by asking,\u00a0\u201cWhere is the God of justice?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cBehold, I send\u00a0my messenger, and\u00a0he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord\u00a0whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and\u00a0the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>But\u00a0who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For\u00a0he is like a refiner&#8217;s fire and like fullers&#8217; soap.\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>He will sit\u00a0as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring\u00a0offerings in righteousness to the\u00a0Lord.\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the\u00a0Lord\u00a0as in the days of old and as in former years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cThen I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be&nbsp;a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those&nbsp;who oppress the hired worker in his wages,&nbsp;the widow and the fatherless, against those who thrust aside the sojourner, and do not fear me, says the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;of hosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Robbing God<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cFor\u00a0I the\u00a0Lord\u00a0do not change;\u00a0therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.\u00a0<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statutes and have not kept them.\u00a0Return to me, and I will return to you, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0But you say, \u2018How shall we return?\u2019\u00a0<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me.\u00a0But you say, \u2018How have we robbed you?\u2019\u00a0In your tithes and contributions.\u00a0<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you.\u00a0<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby\u00a0put me to the test, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts, if I will not open\u00a0the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.\u00a0<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>I will rebuke\u00a0the devourer\u00a0for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.\u00a0<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>Then\u00a0all nations will call you blessed, for you will be\u00a0a land of delight, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cYour words have been hard against me, says the&nbsp;Lord.&nbsp;But you say, \u2018How have we spoken against you?\u2019&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>You have said,&nbsp;\u2018It is vain to serve God.&nbsp;What is the profit of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;of hosts?&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>And now we call&nbsp;the arrogant blessed.&nbsp;Evildoers not only prosper but&nbsp;they put God to the test and they escape.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Book of Remembrance<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>Then those who feared the\u00a0Lord\u00a0spoke with one another. The\u00a0Lord\u00a0paid attention and heard them, and\u00a0a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the\u00a0Lord\u00a0and esteemed his name.\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cThey shall be mine, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts,\u00a0in the day when I make up\u00a0my treasured possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him.\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>Then once more you shall\u00a0see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Great Day of the&nbsp;Lord<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cFor behold,\u00a0the day is coming,\u00a0burning like an oven, when\u00a0all the arrogant and\u00a0all evildoers\u00a0will be stubble. The day that is coming\u00a0shall set them ablaze, says the\u00a0Lord\u00a0of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>But for you\u00a0who fear my name,\u00a0the sun\u00a0of righteousness shall rise\u00a0with healing in its wings.
