the\u00a0Lord,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.<br><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>Better is a little with righteousness<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0than great revenues with injustice.<br><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>The heart of man plans his way,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but\u00a0the\u00a0Lord\u00a0establishes his steps.<br><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>An oracle is on the lips of a king;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0his mouth does not sin in judgment.<br><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>A just balance and scales are the\u00a0Lord&#8217;s;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0all the weights in the bag are his work.<br><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>It is an abomination to kings to do evil,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0for\u00a0the throne is established by righteousness.<br><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>Righteous lips are the delight of a king,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and he loves him who speaks what is right.<br><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>A king&#8217;s wrath is a messenger of death,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and a wise man will\u00a0appease it.<br><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>In the light of a king&#8217;s face there is life,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and his\u00a0favor is like\u00a0the clouds that bring the spring rain.<br><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>How much better to get wisdom than\u00a0gold!<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0To get understanding is to be chosen rather than\u00a0silver.<br><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>The highway of the upright\u00a0turns aside from evil;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0whoever guards his way preserves his life.<br><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>Pride goes before destruction,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and a haughty spirit before a fall.<br><sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0than to\u00a0divide the spoil with the proud.<br><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever gives thought to the word\u00a0will discover good,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and blessed is he\u00a0who trusts in the\u00a0Lord.<br><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>The wise of heart is called discerning,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and sweetness of speech\u00a0increases persuasiveness.<br><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>Good sense is\u00a0a fountain of life to him who has it,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but the instruction of fools is folly.<br><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>The heart of the wise makes his speech judicious<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and adds persuasiveness to his lips.<br><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>Gracious words are like\u00a0a honeycomb,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0sweetness to the soul and\u00a0health to the body.<br><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>There is a way that seems right to a man,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but its end is the way to death.<br><sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>A worker&#8217;s appetite works for him;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0his\u00a0mouth urges him on.<br><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>A worthless man plots evil,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and his speech\u00a0is like\u00a0a scorching fire.<br><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>A dishonest man spreads strife,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0a whisperer\u00a0separates close friends.<br><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>A man of violence\u00a0entices his neighbor<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and leads him in a way that is not good.<br><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever winks his eyes plans\u00a0dishonest things;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he who\u00a0purses his lips brings evil to pass.<br><sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>Gray hair is\u00a0a crown of glory;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0it\u00a0is gained in a righteous life.<br><sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.<br><sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>The lot is cast into the lap,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but its every decision is\u00a0from the\u00a0Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 17<br><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>Better is a dry morsel with quiet<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0than a house full of feasting\u00a0with strife.<br><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>A servant who deals wisely will rule over\u00a0a son who acts shamefully<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0will share the inheritance as one of the brothers.<br><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the\u00a0Lord\u00a0tests hearts.<br><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>An evildoer listens to wicked lips,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.<br><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever mocks the poor\u00a0insults his Maker;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he who is\u00a0glad at calamity will not go\u00a0unpunished.<br><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>Grandchildren are\u00a0the crown of the aged,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the glory of children is their fathers.<br><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>Fine speech is not\u00a0becoming to a fool;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0still less is\u00a0false speech to a prince.<br><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>A bribe is like a magic\u00a0stone in the eyes of the one who gives it;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0wherever he turns he prospers.<br><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever\u00a0covers an offense seeks love,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but he who repeats a matter\u00a0separates close friends.<br><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>A rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0than a hundred blows into a fool.<br><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>An evil man seeks only rebellion,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0a cruel messenger will be sent against him.<br><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>Let a man meet\u00a0a she-bear robbed of her cubs<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0rather than a fool in his folly.<br><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>If anyone\u00a0returns evil for good,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0evil will not depart from his house.<br><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>The beginning of strife is like letting out water,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0so\u00a0quit before the quarrel breaks out.<br><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>He who\u00a0justifies the wicked and he who\u00a0condemns the righteous<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0are both alike an abomination to the\u00a0Lord.<br><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>Why should a fool have money in his hand\u00a0to buy wisdom<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0when he has no sense?<br><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>A friend loves at all times,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and a brother is born for adversity.<br><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>One who lacks sense gives a pledge<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and puts up security in the presence of his neighbor.<br><sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever loves transgression loves strife;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he who\u00a0makes his door high seeks destruction.<br><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>A man of crooked heart does not discover good,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and one with a dishonest tongue falls into calamity.<br><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>He who\u00a0sires a fool gets himself sorrow,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the father of a fool has no joy.<br><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>A joyful heart is good medicine,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but a crushed spirit\u00a0dries up the bones.<br><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>The wicked accepts\u00a0a bribe in secret<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to\u00a0pervert the ways of justice.<br><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>The discerning sets his face toward wisdom,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.<br><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>A foolish son is a grief to his father<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and bitterness to\u00a0her who bore him.<br><sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>To impose a fine on a righteous man is not good,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0nor to strike the noble for their uprightness.<br><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>Whoever\u00a0restrains his words has knowledge,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.<br><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>Even a fool\u00a0who keeps silent is considered wise;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 18<br><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>Whoever\u00a0isolates himself seeks his own desire;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he breaks out against all sound judgment.<br><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but only\u00a0in expressing his opinion.<br><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>When wickedness comes, contempt comes also,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and with dishonor comes disgrace.<br><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>The words of a man&#8217;s mouth fool&#8217;s mouth is his ruin,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and his lips are a snare to his soul.<br><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>The words of a whisperer are like delicious haughty,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but\u00a0humility comes before honor.<br><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>If one gives an answer\u00a0before he hears,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0it is his folly and shame.<br><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>A man&#8217;s spirit will endure sickness,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but\u00a0a crushed spirit who can bear?<br><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>An intelligent heart acquires knowledge,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.<br><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>A man&#8217;s\u00a0gift makes room for him<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and brings him before the quarrels<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and decides between powerful contenders.<br><sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>A brother offended is more unyielding than a strong city,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and quarreling is like the bars of a castle.<br><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>From the fruit of a man&#8217;s mouth his stomach is satisfied;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he is satisfied by the yield of his lips.<br><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>Death and life are in the power of the tongue,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and those who love it will eat its fruits.<br><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>He who finds\u00a0a wife
