Knowledge<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1&nbsp;<\/strong>The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>To know wisdom and instruction,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;to understand words of insight,<br><sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>to receive instruction in wise dealing,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;in&nbsp;righteousness, justice, and equity;<br><sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>to give prudence to&nbsp;the simple,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;knowledge and&nbsp;discretion to the youth\u2014<br><sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>Let the wise hear and&nbsp;increase in learning,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the one who understands obtain guidance,<br><sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>to understand a proverb and a saying,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;the words of the wise and their&nbsp;riddles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>The fear of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;is the beginning of knowledge;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;fools despise wisdom and instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Enticement of Sinners<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>Hear, my son, your father&#8217;s instruction,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and forsake not your mother&#8217;s teaching,<br><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>for they are&nbsp;a graceful garland for your head<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and&nbsp;pendants for your neck.<br><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>My son, if sinners&nbsp;entice you,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;do not consent.<br><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>If they say, \u201cCome with us,&nbsp;let us lie in wait for blood;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;let us ambush the innocent without reason;<br><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>like Sheol let us&nbsp;swallow them alive,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and whole, like&nbsp;those who go down to the pit;<br><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>we shall find all precious goods,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;we shall fill our houses with plunder;<br><sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>throw in your lot among us;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;we will all have one purse\u201d\u2014<br><sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>my son,&nbsp;do not walk in the way with them;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;hold back your foot from their paths,<br><sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>for&nbsp;their feet run to evil,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and they make haste to shed blood.<br><sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>For in vain is a net spread<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;in the sight of any bird,<br><sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>but these men&nbsp;lie in wait for their own blood;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;they&nbsp;set an ambush for their own lives.<br><sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>Such are the ways of everyone who is&nbsp;greedy for unjust gain;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;it takes away the life of its possessors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Call of Wisdom<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>Wisdom cries aloud in the street,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0in the markets she raises her voice;<br><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>at the head of the noisy streets she cries out;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0at\u00a0the entrance of the city gates she speaks:<br><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cHow long, O\u00a0simple ones, will you love being simple?<br>How long will\u00a0scoffers delight in their scoffing<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and fools\u00a0hate knowledge?<br><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>If you turn at my reproof,<br>behold, I will\u00a0pour out my spirit to you;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I will make my words known to you.<br><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>Because I have called and\u00a0you refused to listen,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0have\u00a0stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,<br><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>because you have\u00a0ignored all my counsel<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0would have none of my reproof,<br><sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>I also\u00a0will laugh at your calamity;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I will mock when\u00a0terror strikes you,<br><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>when terror strikes you like\u00a0a storm<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0when distress and anguish come upon you.<br><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0they will seek me diligently but will not find me.<br><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>Because they\u00a0hated knowledge<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0did not choose the fear of the\u00a0Lord,<br><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>would have none of my counsel<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0despised all my reproof,<br><sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>therefore they shall eat\u00a0the fruit of their way,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and have\u00a0their fill of their own devices.<br><sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>For the simple are killed by\u00a0their turning away,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0the complacency of fools destroys them;<br><sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>but\u00a0whoever listens to me will dwell secure<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and will be\u00a0at ease, without dread of disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Value of Wisdom<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>My son,\u00a0if you receive my words<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and treasure up my commandments with you,<br><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>making your ear attentive to wisdom<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and inclining your heart to understanding;<br><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>yes, if you call out for insight<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and raise your voice\u00a0for understanding,<br><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>if you seek it like\u00a0silver<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and search for it as for\u00a0hidden treasures,<br><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>then\u00a0you will understand the fear of the\u00a0Lord<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and find the knowledge of God.<br><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>For\u00a0the\u00a0Lord\u00a0gives wisdom;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;<br><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0he is\u00a0a shield to those who\u00a0walk in integrity,<br><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>guarding the paths of justice<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0watching over the way of his\u00a0saints.<br><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>Then you will understand\u00a0righteousness and justice<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and equity, every good path;<br><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>for wisdom will come into your heart,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;<br><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>discretion will\u00a0watch over you,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0understanding will guard you,<br><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>delivering you from the way of evil,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from men of perverted speech,<br><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>who forsake the paths of uprightness<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to\u00a0walk in the ways of darkness,<br><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>who\u00a0rejoice in doing evil<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0delight in the perverseness of evil,<br><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>men whose\u00a0paths are crooked,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and who are\u00a0devious in their ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>So\u00a0you will be delivered from the forbidden\u00a0woman,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from\u00a0the adulteress\u00a0with\u00a0her smooth words,<br><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>who forsakes\u00a0the companion of her youth<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and forgets\u00a0the covenant of her God;<br><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>for her house sinks down to death,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and her paths to the departed;<br><sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>none who go to her come back,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0nor do they regain the paths of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>So you will walk in the way of the good<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and keep to the paths of the righteous.<br><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>For the upright\u00a0will inhabit the land,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and those with integrity will remain in it,<br><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>but the wicked will be\u00a0cut off from the land,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and the treacherous will be\u00a0rooted out of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trust in the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;with All Your Heart<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>My son, do not forget my teaching,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but let your heart keep my commandments,<br><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>for\u00a0length of days and years of life<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0peace they will add to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>Let not\u00a0steadfast love and\u00a0faithfulness forsake you;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0bind them around your neck;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0write them on the tablet of your heart.<br><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>So you will\u00a0find favor and\u00a0good success<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0in the sight of God and man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>Trust in the\u00a0Lord\u00a0with all your heart,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0do not lean on your own understanding.<br><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>In all your ways\u00a0acknowledge him,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and he\u00a0will make straight your paths.<br><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>Be not wise in your own eyes;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0fear the\u00a0Lord, and turn away from evil.<br><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>It will be\u00a0healing to your flesh<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0refreshment\u00a0to your bones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>Honor the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;with your wealth<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and with&nbsp;the firstfruits of all your produce;<br><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>then your&nbsp;barns will be filled with plenty,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and your vats will be bursting with wine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>My son, do not despise the&nbsp;Lord&#8217;s discipline<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;or be weary of his reproof,<br><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>for the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;reproves him whom he loves,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;as&nbsp;a father the son in whom he delights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blessed Is the One Who Finds Wisdom<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the one who gets understanding,<br><sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>for the gain from her is better than gain from silver<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and her profit better than&nbsp;gold.<br><sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>She is more precious than&nbsp;jewels,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and&nbsp;nothing you desire can compare with her.<br><sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>Long life is in her right hand;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;in her left hand are&nbsp;riches and honor.<br><sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>Her&nbsp;ways are ways of pleasantness,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and all her paths are peace.<br><sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>She is&nbsp;a tree of life to those who&nbsp;lay hold of her;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;those who hold her fast are called blessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>The&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;by wisdom founded the earth;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;by understanding&nbsp;he established the heavens;<br><sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>by his knowledge&nbsp;the deeps broke open,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and&nbsp;the clouds drop down the dew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>My son,\u00a0do not lose sight of these\u2014<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0keep sound wisdom and discretion,<br><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>and they will be\u00a0life for your soul<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0adornment for your neck.<br><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>Then you will walk on your way securely,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and your foot will not stumble.<br><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>If you lie down, you will not be afraid;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0when you lie down,\u00a0your sleep will be sweet.<br><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>Do not be afraid of sudden terror<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0or of\u00a0the ruin\u00a0of the wicked, when it comes,<br><sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>for the\u00a0Lord\u00a0will be your confidence<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and will\u00a0keep your foot from being caught.<br><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0when it is in your power to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>Do not say to your neighbor, \u201cGo, and come again,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0tomorrow I will give it\u201d\u2014when you have it with you.<br><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>Do not plan evil against your neighbor,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0who\u00a0dwells trustingly beside you.<br><sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>Do not contend with a man for no reason,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0when he has done you no harm.<br><sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>Do not envy\u00a0a man of violence<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and do not choose any of his ways,<br><sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>for\u00a0the devious person is an abomination to the\u00a0Lord,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but the upright are\u00a0in his confidence.<br><sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>The\u00a0Lord&#8217;s curse is on the house of the wicked,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but he\u00a0blesses the dwelling of the righteous.<br><sup>34\u00a0<\/sup>Toward the\u00a0scorners he\u00a0is scornful,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but to the humble he gives favor.<br><sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>The wise will inherit honor,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0but fools get\u00a0disgrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Father&#8217;s Wise Instruction<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>Hear, O sons, a father&#8217;s instruction,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and be attentive, that you may\u00a0gain\u00a0insight,<br><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>for I give you good\u00a0precepts;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0do not forsake my teaching.<br><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>When I was a son with my father,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0tender,\u00a0the only one in the sight of my mother,<br><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>he\u00a0taught me and said to me,<br>\u201cLet your heart hold fast my words;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0keep my commandments, and live.<br><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>Get wisdom; get\u00a0insight;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.<br><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0love her, and she will guard you.<br><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and whatever you get, get\u00a0insight.<br><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0she will\u00a0honor you\u00a0if you embrace her.<br><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>She will place on your head\u00a0a graceful garland;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>Hear,&nbsp;my son, and accept my words,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;that&nbsp;the years of your life may be many.<br><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>I have&nbsp;taught you the way of wisdom;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I have led you in the paths of uprightness.<br><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>When you walk,&nbsp;your step will not be hampered,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and&nbsp;if you run, you will not stumble.<br><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;guard her, for she is your&nbsp;life.<br><sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>Do not enter the path of the wicked,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and do not walk in the way of the evil.<br><sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>Avoid it; do not go on it;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;turn away from it and pass on.<br><sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>For they&nbsp;cannot sleep unless they have done wrong;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble.<br><sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>For they eat the bread of wickedness<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and drink the wine of violence.<br><sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>But&nbsp;the path of the righteous is like&nbsp;the light of dawn,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;which shines&nbsp;brighter and brighter until&nbsp;full day.<br><sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>The way of the wicked is like deep&nbsp;darkness;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;they do not know over what they&nbsp;stumble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>My son, be attentive to my words;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0incline your ear to my sayings.<br><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>Let them not escape from your sight;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0keep them within your heart.<br><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>For they are\u00a0life to those who find them,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and healing to all their\u00a0flesh.<br><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>Keep your heart with all vigilance,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0for\u00a0from it flow\u00a0the springs of life.<br><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>Put away from you\u00a0crooked speech,<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and put\u00a0devious talk far from you.<br><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>Let your eyes look directly
