And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>At the end of three days the officers went through the camp&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>and commanded the people, \u201cAs soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;your God being carried by&nbsp;the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it.&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits&nbsp;in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Joshua said to the people,&nbsp;\u201cConsecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;will do wonders among you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>And Joshua said to the priests,&nbsp;\u201cTake up the ark of the covenant and pass on before the people.\u201d So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>The&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to Joshua, \u201cToday I will begin to&nbsp;exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that,&nbsp;as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>And as for you, command&nbsp;the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, \u2018When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan,&nbsp;you shall stand still in the Jordan.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>And Joshua said to the people of Israel, \u201cCome here and listen to the words of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;your God.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>And Joshua said, \u201cHere is how you shall know that&nbsp;the living God is among you and that he will without fail&nbsp;drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites.&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>Behold, the ark of the covenant of&nbsp;the Lord of all the earth&nbsp;is passing over before you into the Jordan.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>Now therefore&nbsp;take twelve men from the tribes of Israel,&nbsp;from each tribe a man.&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the&nbsp;Lord,&nbsp;the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall&nbsp;stand in one heap.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan with the priests bearing\u00a0the ark of the covenant before the people,\u00a0<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and\u00a0the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now\u00a0the Jordan overflows all its banks\u00a0throughout the time of harvest),\u00a0<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside\u00a0Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of\u00a0the Arabah,\u00a0the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho.\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan,\u00a0and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapter 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Twelve Memorial Stones from the Jordan<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>When all the nation had finished passing\u00a0over the Jordan, the\u00a0Lord\u00a0said to Joshua,\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cTake twelve men from the people, from each tribe a man,\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>and command them, saying, \u2018Take\u00a0twelve stones from here out of the midst of the Jordan, from the very place\u00a0where the priests&#8217; feet stood firmly, and bring them over with you and lay them down in\u00a0the place where you lodge tonight.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>Then Joshua called the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe.\u00a0<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>And Joshua said to them, \u201cPass on before the ark of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel,\u00a0<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>that this may be a sign among you.\u00a0When your children ask in time to come, \u2018What do those stones mean to you?\u2019\u00a0<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>then you shall tell them that\u00a0the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the\u00a0Lord. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel\u00a0a memorial forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>And the people of Israel did just as Joshua commanded and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel, just as the\u00a0Lord\u00a0told Joshua. And they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged and laid them down\u00a0there.\u00a0<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>And Joshua set up\u00a0twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan,\u00a0in the place where the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant had stood; and they are there to this day.\u00a0<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>For the priests bearing the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the\u00a0Lord\u00a0commanded Joshua to tell the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The people passed over in haste.&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>And when all the people had finished passing over, the ark of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;and the priests passed over before the people.&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>The sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh&nbsp;passed over armed before the people of Israel, as Moses had told them.&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>About 40,000 ready for war passed over before the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;for battle, to the plains of Jericho.&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>On that day the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they stood in awe of him just as they had stood in awe of Moses, all the days of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>And the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to Joshua,&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cCommand the priests bearing&nbsp;the ark of the testimony to come up out of the Jordan.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>So Joshua commanded the priests, \u201cCome up out of the Jordan.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>And when the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;came up from the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests&#8217; feet were lifted up on dry ground, the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and overflowed all its banks,&nbsp;as before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they encamped at&nbsp;Gilgal on the east border of Jericho.&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal.&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said to the people of Israel,&nbsp;\u201cWhen your children ask their fathers in times to come, \u2018What do these stones mean?\u2019&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>then you shall let your children know,&nbsp;\u2018Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>For the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;your God did to the Red Sea,&nbsp;which he dried up for us until we passed over,&nbsp;<sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;is&nbsp;mighty, that you may&nbsp;fear the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;your God forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ededed\">The Holy Bible, English Standard Version\u00ae (ESV\u00ae), copyright \u00a9 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-divider ugb-divider ugb-3635222 ugb-divider--v2 ugb-divider--design-basic ugb-main-block\"><style>.ugb-3635222 hr.ugb-divider__hr{background-color:#dddddd !important;height:1px !important;width:50% !important;margin-left:auto !important;margin-right:auto !important}.ugb-3635222 .ugb-inner-block{text-align:center}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><hr class=\"ugb-divider__hr\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joshua 3,4 Israel Crosses the Jordan 1&nbsp;Then Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out&nbsp;from Shittim.
