He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father&#8217;s wives. And Joseph brought\u00a0a bad report of them to their father.\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was\u00a0the son of his old age. And he made him\u00a0a robe of many colors.\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>He said to them, \u201cHear this dream that I have dreamed:&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold,&nbsp;my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and&nbsp;bowed down to my sheaf.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>His brothers said to him, \u201cAre you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?\u201d So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, \u201cBehold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, \u201cWhat is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and&nbsp;your mother and your brothers indeed come&nbsp;to bow ourselves to the ground before you?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;his brothers were jealous of him,&nbsp;but his father kept the saying in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Joseph Sold by His Brothers<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>Now his brothers went to pasture their father&#8217;s flock near&nbsp;Shechem.&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>And Israel said to Joseph, \u201cAre not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.\u201d And he said to him, \u201cHere I am.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>So he said to him, \u201cGo now, see if it is well with your brothers and with the flock, and bring me word.\u201d So he sent him from the Valley of&nbsp;Hebron, and he came to Shechem.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>And a man found him wandering in the fields. And the man asked him, \u201cWhat are you seeking?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cI am seeking my brothers,\u201d he said. \u201cTell me, please, where they are pasturing the flock.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And the man said, \u201cThey have gone away, for I heard them say, \u2018Let us go to&nbsp;Dothan.\u2019\u201d So Joseph went after his brothers and found them at&nbsp;Dothan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them\u00a0they conspired against him to kill him.\u00a0<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>They said to one another, \u201cHere comes this dreamer.\u00a0<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>Come now,\u00a0let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits.\u00a0Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams.\u201d\u00a0<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>But when\u00a0Reuben heard it, he rescued him out of their hands, saying, \u201cLet us not take his life.\u201d\u00a0<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>And Reuben said to them, \u201cShed no blood; throw him into this pit here in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him\u201d\u2014that he might rescue him out of their hand to restore him to his father.\u00a0<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe,\u00a0the robe of many colors that he wore.\u00a0<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>And they took him and\u00a0threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>Then they sat down to eat. And looking up they saw a\u00a0caravan of\u00a0Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing\u00a0gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt.\u00a0<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>Then Judah said to his brothers, \u201cWhat profit is it\u00a0if we kill our brother and conceal his blood?\u00a0<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and\u00a0let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our own flesh.\u201d And his brothers listened to him.\u00a0<sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>Then\u00a0Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and\u00a0sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels\u00a0of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>When Reuben returned to the pit and saw that Joseph was not in the pit, he&nbsp;tore his clothes&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>and returned to his brothers and said, \u201cThe boy&nbsp;is gone, and I, where shall I go?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>Then they took&nbsp;Joseph&#8217;s robe and slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood.&nbsp;<sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup>And they sent the robe of many colors and brought it to their father and said, \u201cThis we have found; please identify whether it is your son&#8217;s robe or not.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup>And he identified it and said, \u201cIt is my son&#8217;s robe.&nbsp;A fierce animal has devoured him.
