{"id":1162,"date":"2020-10-04T00:15:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-04T05:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=1162"},"modified":"2020-10-02T09:50:56","modified_gmt":"2020-10-02T14:50:56","slug":"10-4-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/10-4-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotional-October 4th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>October 4, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book of Exodus tells the story of the birth of the nation of Israel fulfilling God\u2019s promise to Abraham.&nbsp; From the seventy descendants of Jacob, Israel was fruitful and multiplied greatly until they filled the whole land of Egypt.&nbsp; After four centuries of slavery, God answers the cries of His people for deliverance.&nbsp; God raises up Moses for this calling, to lead his people out of bondage to a land of promise and deliverance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the greatest stories of the Bible are featured in Exodus\u2014from the Ten Plagues, and the Passover, to the crossing of the Red Sea, and the establishment of the covenant at Mount Sinai. The Passover lamb, the exodus from the land of Egypt, the seven feasts, the tabernacle, and even the high priest, are all foreshadows of the ministry of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapters 1-18 contains the events leading up to God\u2019s delivering the Hebrews from their captivity in Egypt, and chapters 19-40 shares the events in the wilderness and the account of God\u2019s instructions to Moses on Mount Sinai to direct the life and worship of the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-a8ea4fb ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-a8ea4fb-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-a8ea4fb-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}@media screen and (min-width:768px){.ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-a8ea4fb-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-a8ea4fb-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exodus 4<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moses Given Powerful Signs<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>1&nbsp;Then Moses answered, \u201cBut behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, \u2018The&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;did not appear to you.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>The&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to him, \u201cWhat is that in your hand?\u201d He said,&nbsp;\u201cA staff.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said, \u201cThrow it on the ground.\u201d So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it.&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>But the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to Moses, \u201cPut out your hand and catch it by the tail\u201d\u2014so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand\u2014&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cthat they may&nbsp;believe that the&nbsp;Lord,&nbsp;the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>Again, the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to him, \u201cPut your hand inside your cloak.\u201d&nbsp;And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was&nbsp;leprous&nbsp;like snow.&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>Then God said, \u201cPut your hand back inside your cloak.\u201d So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold,&nbsp;it was restored like the rest of his flesh.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cIf they will not believe you,\u201d God said, \u201cor listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign.&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the Nile&nbsp;will become blood on the dry ground.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>But Moses said to the&nbsp;Lord, \u201cOh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but&nbsp;I am slow of speech and of tongue.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>Then the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to him, \u201cWho has made man&#8217;s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the&nbsp;Lord?&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>Now therefore go, and&nbsp;I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>But he said, \u201cOh, my Lord, please send someone else.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>Then the anger of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;was kindled against Moses and he said, \u201cIs there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold,&nbsp;he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>You shall speak to him and&nbsp;put the words in his mouth, and&nbsp;I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do.&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>He shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and&nbsp;you shall be as God to him.&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>And take in your hand&nbsp;this staff, with which you shall do the signs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moses Returns to Egypt<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>Moses went back to&nbsp;Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, \u201cPlease let me go back to my brothers in Egypt to see whether they are still alive.\u201d And Jethro said to Moses, \u201cGo in peace.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>And the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to Moses in Midian, \u201cGo back to Egypt, for&nbsp;all the men who were seeking your life are dead.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>So Moses took&nbsp;his wife and his sons and had them ride on a donkey, and went back to the land of Egypt. And Moses took&nbsp;the staff of God in his hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to Moses, \u201cWhen you go back to Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the&nbsp;miracles that I have put in your power. But&nbsp;I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go.&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>Then you shall say to Pharaoh, \u2018Thus says the&nbsp;Lord,&nbsp;Israel is my&nbsp;firstborn son,&nbsp;<sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>and I say to you, \u201cLet my son go that he may serve me.\u201d If you refuse to let him go, behold, I&nbsp;will kill your firstborn son.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup>At a lodging place on the way&nbsp;the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;met him and&nbsp;sought to put him to death.&nbsp;<sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup>Then&nbsp;Zipporah took a&nbsp;flint and cut off her son&#8217;s foreskin and touched Moses&#8217;&nbsp;feet with it and said, \u201cSurely you are a bridegroom of blood to me!\u201d&nbsp;<sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup>So he let him alone. It was then that she said, \u201cA bridegroom of blood,\u201d because of the circumcision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup>The&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said to Aaron, \u201cGo into the wilderness&nbsp;to meet Moses.\u201d So he went and met him at the&nbsp;mountain of God and kissed him.&nbsp;<sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup>And Moses&nbsp;told Aaron all the words of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;with which he had sent him to speak, and all&nbsp;the signs that he had commanded him to do.&nbsp;<sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Moses and Aaron&nbsp;went and gathered together all the elders of the people of Israel.&nbsp;<sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup>Aaron spoke all the words that the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;had spoken to Moses and did the signs in the sight of the people.&nbsp;<sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup>And the people&nbsp;believed;
