{"id":1160,"date":"2020-10-03T00:15:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-03T05:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/?p=1160"},"modified":"2020-10-02T09:50:20","modified_gmt":"2020-10-02T14:50:20","slug":"10-3-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/devotionals\/10-3-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotional-October 3rd"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>October 3, 2020<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book of Exodus tells the story of the birth of the nation of Israel fulfilling God\u2019s promise to Abraham.&nbsp; From the seventy descendants of Jacob, Israel was fruitful and multiplied greatly until they filled the whole land of Egypt.&nbsp; After four centuries of slavery, God answers the cries of His people for deliverance.&nbsp; God raises up Moses for this calling, to lead his people out of bondage to a land of promise and deliverance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the greatest stories of the Bible are featured in Exodus\u2014from the Ten Plagues, and the Passover, to the crossing of the Red Sea, and the establishment of the covenant at Mount Sinai. The Passover lamb, the exodus from the land of Egypt, the seven feasts, the tabernacle, and even the high priest, are all foreshadows of the ministry of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chapters 1-18 contains the events leading up to God\u2019s delivering the Hebrews from their captivity in Egypt, and chapters 19-40 shares the events in the wilderness and the account of God\u2019s instructions to Moses on Mount Sinai to direct the life and worship of the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container ugb-d3e38bc ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-basic ugb-main-block\" id=\"\"><style>.ugb-d3e38bc-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper{border-radius:12px !important;background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-d3e38bc-wrapper.ugb-container__wrapper:before{background-color:#f1f1f1 !important}.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > h1,.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > h2,.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > h3,.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > h4,.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > h5,.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > h6{color:#222222}.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > p,.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > ol li,.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper > ul li{color:#222222}@media screen and (min-width:768px){.ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper.ugb-container__content-wrapper{width:100% !important}}<\/style><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-d3e38bc-wrapper ugb--shadow-3\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-d3e38bc-content-wrapper\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exodus 3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Burning Bush<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>1&nbsp;Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the&nbsp;mountain of God.&nbsp;<sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;the angel of the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed.&nbsp;<sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup>And Moses said, \u201cI will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup>When the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;saw that he turned aside to see,&nbsp;God called to him&nbsp;out of the bush, \u201cMoses, Moses!\u201d And he said, \u201cHere I am.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup>Then he said, \u201cDo not come near;&nbsp;take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>And he said,&nbsp;\u201cI am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.\u201d And Moses hid his face, for&nbsp;he was afraid to look at God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>Then the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;said,&nbsp;\u201cI have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their&nbsp;taskmasters. I know their sufferings,&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>and&nbsp;I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and&nbsp;to bring them up out of that land to a&nbsp;good and broad land, a land&nbsp;flowing with milk and honey, to the place of&nbsp;the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>And now, behold,&nbsp;the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the&nbsp;oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.\u201d&nbsp;<sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>But Moses said to God,&nbsp;\u201cWho am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>He said,&nbsp;\u201cBut I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt,&nbsp;you shall serve God on this mountain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>Then Moses said to God, \u201cIf I come to the people of Israel and say to them, \u2018The God of your fathers has sent me to you,\u2019 and they ask me, \u2018What is his name?\u2019 what shall I say to them?\u201d&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>God said to Moses, \u201cI am who I am.\u201d&nbsp;And he said, \u201cSay this to the people of Israel:&nbsp;\u2018I am&nbsp;has sent me to you.\u2019\u201d&nbsp;<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>God also said to Moses, \u201cSay this to the people of Israel: \u2018The&nbsp;Lord,&nbsp;the&nbsp;God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.\u2019 This is&nbsp;my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.&nbsp;<sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup>Go and&nbsp;gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, \u2018The&nbsp;Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying,&nbsp;\u201cI have observed you and what has been done to you in Egypt,&nbsp;<sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup>and I promise that&nbsp;I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land&nbsp;flowing with milk and honey.\u201d\u2019&nbsp;<sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;they will listen to your voice, and you and the elders of Israel&nbsp;shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him, \u2018The&nbsp;Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has&nbsp;met with us; and now, please let us go a three days&#8217; journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the&nbsp;Lord&nbsp;our God.\u2019&nbsp;<sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>But I know that the king of Egypt&nbsp;will not let you go unless compelled&nbsp;by a mighty hand.&nbsp;<sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup>So&nbsp;I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with&nbsp;all the wonders that I will do in it;&nbsp;after that he will let you go.&nbsp;<sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>And&nbsp;I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and when you go, you shall not go empty,&nbsp;<sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>but each woman shall ask of her neighbor, and any woman who lives in her house, for&nbsp;silver and gold jewelry, and for clothing. You shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. You are holy and just and compassionate beyond measure.\u00a0 My soul will praise your name!
