Before Jesus ever asked us to go, He made sure we understood why.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past several weeks, we\u2019ve been walking through the reality of the resurrection. Not just as a historical event, but as something that reaches into our everyday lives. We\u2019ve seen how the risen Jesus meets people exactly where they are. He met Mary in her grief, the disciples in their confusion, Thomas in his doubt, and Peter in his failure. And every time, He brought exactly what was needed: hope, clarity, peace, and restoration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when you get to the final post-resurrection moments, something shifts.\u00a0Jesus is no longer just meeting needs. He\u2019s giving direction.\u00a0
He\u2019s not just comforting His followers. He\u2019s commissioning them.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Mission, Not Just a Moment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We read Jesus\u2019 words in Matthew 28 and Acts 1, and they carry the same heartbeat: \u201cGo.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not \u201csit.\u201d Not \u201cwait.\u201d Not \u201cstay comfortable.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go and make disciples. Go and be my witnesses. Go to the ends of the earth.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think this is where a lot of us quietly hesitate, because the scope of that calling feels overwhelming. It\u2019s one thing to believe in the resurrection; it\u2019s another thing to realize it comes with an assignment attached.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s what I believe we need to see: Jesus never gives a mission without also giving what we need to live it out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What It Means to Be a Witness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes we overcomplicate this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A witness, biblically speaking, is simply someone who testifies to what they\u2019ve seen and what they\u2019ve heard. For us, it looks a little different, but it\u2019s no less real. We\u2019ve seen His grace at work in our lives. We\u2019ve heard His truth through Scripture. And that becomes our testimony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is how the mission moves forward. Not through perfect people, but through honest ones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scope Feels Big (Because It Is)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jesus talks about Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth. That\u2019s not just geography; it\u2019s a way of thinking about influence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It starts where you are. Your home, your workplace, your daily rhythms. But it doesn\u2019t stay there. It moves outward, crossing cultural lines, social lines, and even uncomfortable lines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if we\u2019re honest, that\u2019s where it gets challenging. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s one thing to talk about \u201cthe nations.\u201d It\u2019s another thing to talk about the coworker who thinks differently than you, the neighbor you\u2019ve never really engaged with, or the person you\u2019d naturally avoid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Jesus doesn\u2019t give us the option of staying within what\u2019s easy. He calls us beyond it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re Not Sent Alone<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is where everything changes. If the mission depended on us alone, it would be too much. It would be overwhelming. It would be impossible. But Jesus makes a promise that steadies everything: \u201cI am with you always.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s not symbolic. That\u2019s not motivational language. That\u2019s reality. I\u2019ve found myself asking this: if I truly believed Jesus was with me in every conversation, every moment, and every opportunity, what would I actually be afraid of? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Would I fear rejection? Would I hesitate to speak? Would I hold back from obedience?\u00a0Probably not.\u00a0Because His presence changes everything. It replaces fear with confidence, not in ourselves, but in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power for What You\u2019ve Been Called To Do<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Not only is He with us, He\u2019s working in us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Acts 1, Jesus tells His followers to wait for the Holy Spirit before stepping into the mission. Why? Because this calling was never meant to be carried out in human strength. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead now lives in every believer.\u00a0That means when you speak, you\u2019re not speaking alone.\u00a0When you step out, you\u2019re not stepping out empty-handed.\u00a0When you share your story, God is already at work in ways you can\u2019t see.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We don\u2019t manufacture results. We simply remain faithful witnesses and trust the Spirit to do what only He can do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Urgency We Don\u2019t Talk About Enough<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s another piece to this mission that we can\u2019t ignore: Jesus is coming back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Acts 1, as the disciples stand watching Him ascend, they\u2019re told something that should reshape how we live: He will return in the same way He left.\u00a0 That truth introduces urgency. Not panic, but purpose.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every day that passes is another opportunity for someone to hear the gospel\u2026 or not. And Scripture makes it clear that God is patient, not wanting anyone to perish. But His patience doesn\u2019t remove our responsibility. It fuels it. We don\u2019t have forever to do what we\u2019ve been called to do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Danger of Getting Comfortable<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There’s a tension we have to guard against. It\u2019s incredibly easy to drift into comfort. To enjoy community, routine, and stability while slowly losing sight of the mission. Not intentionally, just gradually.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over time, what was meant to be a rescue movement can turn into something much safer\u2026 and much smaller. But that\u2019s not who we are called to be.\u00a0We are not here to gather.\u00a0We are here to go.\u00a0To move toward people.\u00a0To carry hope.\u00a0To step into places where the name of Jesus isn\u2019t known.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comfort will always compete with calling. And if we\u2019re not careful, it will win quietly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I’m Asking God to Write on My Heart<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As I\u2019ve been sitting with this, I keep coming back to two simple prayers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First: God, keep the name of Jesus at the center of my heart, <\/em>not as an idea, not as a routine, but as the driving force behind how I live. If He truly has all authority and if He really conquered death, then He deserves more than passive belief. He deserves my life.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second: God, put the names of people on my heart. <\/em>Real people. Specific people. The ones in my daily life who need hope, who need truth, who need Him. The mission doesn\u2019t start somewhere far away; it starts with the people right in front of me.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So What Do We Do With This?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We don\u2019t overcomplicate it.\u00a0We stay aware.\u00a0We stay available.\u00a0We stay obedient.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We remember that we are sent. Not someday, but today. Not somewhere else, but right where we are. The resurrection doesn\u2019t just change eternity. It changes what we do on a random Monday, in an ordinary conversation, in a moment we could easily overlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we really believe that, then we won\u2019t just admire the mission. We\u2019ll live it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
