Now He Wants Other College Students to Meet Jesus Too."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dan, a junior marketing major at Lone Star College, found more than just an education at school\u2014he discovered faith, friendship, and a sense of purpose. His spiritual journey began when his neighbors invited him and his family to Christmas Spectacular at Champion Forest. A short time later, he discovered the Lone Star Christian Club at a Lone Star campus event called \u201cClub Fest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBefore joining the club, I was lost and felt isolated,\u201d Dan said. \u201cI needed connection, and it felt like God led me to the club. I thought I was attending Lone Star for college, but ended up meeting Jesus through my school, too.\u201d Through the club, Dan also met new friends who support him and pray with him as he grows in his newfound faith. \u201cI\u2019ve found a supportive community and genuine friendships that help me grow spiritually.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His favorite part of the club is the fellowship and opportunity to study the Bible with people his age. He also enjoys learning from Kal, Champion Forest\u2019s college pastor and club director. \u201cOne of my close friends is Kal,\u201d Dan notes, \u201cand he invited me to Life Group and The Grove.\u201d It was at The Grove that Dan felt God\u2019s \u201cunconditional love\u201d for him and ultimately felt God compel him to commit his life to Christ and pursue baptism. \u201cI was baptized as a newborn, but this time, it was my decision, and I knew I needed to be baptized as an adult.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-692dbe72 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/53608639989_d867bf747c_o-1024x683.jpg ,https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/53608639989_d867bf747c_o-scaled.jpg 780w, https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/53608639989_d867bf747c_o-scaled.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 150px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.championforest.org\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/53608639989_d867bf747c_o-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"uag-image-1975\" width=\"6448\" height=\"4299\" title=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"presentation\"\/><figcaption class=\"uagb-image-caption\">Pictured: Pastor Kal Kilgo baptizes Dan (right)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Life Group continues to be a transformative experience for Dan. \u201cIt\u2019s helped me connect more deeply with others and given me community and accountability,&#8221; he says. Dan emphasized that his Christian family at Champion Forest genuinely cares about him and his life, and that Life Group is &#8220;a place of love and positive energy.&#8221; \u201cBefore Life Group, I was going my own way and let my flesh take control of my life, but because of my Life Group and the accountability I find there, I am learning to let the Spirit control my life. I feel supported.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For college students hesitant to join the Lone Star Christian Club, Dan offers this reassurance: \u201cIt may be challenging at first, and you may have some anxiety going into a room of people you don\u2019t know yet, but the club is full of understanding people who will help you grow and experience life change as I did.\u201d To those unsure about attending a Life Group, he adds, \u201cTake the leap of faith. It\u2019s made a big difference in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dan said that if people who encounter his story walk away with anything, it\u2019s this: \u201cI saw a statistic once that people get saved before the age of 18 about 96% of the time. I feel like God left the 99 for me, and I was the lost sheep that he went after. It doesn\u2019t matter what age you are; God will always seek after that one person\u2019s heart.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ana Alonso&#8217;s life was spiraling out of control. She felt like the only way out was to end her life. Amidst her desperation, she turned to God, and he met her in a unique and powerful way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":1970,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"off","_et_pb_old_content":"<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Growing up, Ana Alonso attended a Catholic Church, but for whatever reason, she never really felt connected. She thought she couldn't have a relationship with Jesus. This all changed when her aunt invited her to a new church. Ana was struck by the beauty of this new church. The way they worshipped God and talked about Scripture opened her eyes and heart. It made her want to start going to church more.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>But soon after this, she found herself in an unhealthy relationship. This relationship eventually led her astray, and she stopped going to church. She focused so much on this relationship that she quickly lost herself. She wrestled with depression and anxiety during this season, and to make matters worse, her mom was also going through her own mental health battle. It was a difficult period in Ana\u2019s life. She felt like everything was spiraling out of control.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>One day, she had a terrible argument with her mom, and in a moment of intense emotion, she found herself yelling at her mom. She had become someone she didn't recognize. \u201cI don\u2019t yell at my family like this,\u201d she thought to herself. She was devastated and heartbroken that she had let things get to this point. In a state of despair, she left and headed to a nearby park, alone. At the park, she just cried. \u201cThere\u2019s no hope left for me,\u201d she thought. She felt like the only way out was to end her life.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Amidst her desperation, she turned to God and whispered for help. She apologized for distancing herself from him and asked for strength to endure. Moments later, two older ladies walked towards her. As they approached, Ana couldn't stop crying, until one of them reached out her hand and placed it on Ana\u2019s shoulder. The woman spoke softly, saying, \"I'm so sorry.\" Ana knew God had answered her prayer. It was the spark of hope she needed.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Since then, Ana\u2019s relationship with Jesus and her faith has grown tremendously. Of course, it has been a journey, but Ana has seen God\u2019s faithfulness time and time again. She set a goal to begin reading the Bible daily, and now she can't wait to read it every day. Even in times of frustration or bitterness, she will pray or go to her Bible, asking God for answers.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>But her journey didn't end there. She eventually found her way to The Grove, a young adult gathering at Champion Forest. She started attending regularly. Now, she serves at the Grove as part of the weekly hospitality team. She continues to meet new people each week who share her hunger for the Lord. When asked about her time at the Grove, Ana said, \u201cWe worship Jesus together and discuss Scripture, and I've even had the chance to pray over others. Being part of this community has been a huge blessing for me, and I believe it was completely the Holy Spirit guiding me to this place.\u201d<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Ana\u2019s testimony is a good reminder that no matter how lost you may feel, God is always with you. He will guide you and give you the strength you need to get through even the toughest of times. It's okay to ask for help, to pray, and to turn to God in moments of desperation.
