As Christians, we have a Christ-assigned responsibility to be salt and light in our world today. We are to be agents of godly influence. We have a divine mandate as His ambassadors to champion the cause of Christ and to speak forth the Word of the Lord, even if that word is not popular or politically correct. In some parts of the world, that would be illegal, but not in America! As Americans, we have rights protected by the Constitution and the 1st Amendment to speak out according to our convictions in both the public and the political arenas. It is our right to influence public opinion, to engage in political discourse, and to shape public policy, as much as it is the right of any other religious or non-religious group in America. So why is there such pressure to silence the Christian church today in the name of “Separation of Church and State?” More importantly, why are so many Pastors and churches bowing to that pressure, surrendering their rights and ignoring their responsibility as American Christians, and Christian Americans? Pastor Fleming tackles these and other hot-topic issues from the pulpit of Champion Forest Baptist Church.
